Fillit is both a platform and Irish business founded in 2016 by John Carroll in Dublin, Ireland. The platform is one of the first to enable utilisation of the shared economy of commercial spaces in Europe, and has been the recipient of many awards in categories related to both innovation and user experience.

Fillit's platform primarily enables the short-term leasing of commercial space, which is used for promotion marketing, experiential marketing, events marketing and sales.

Fillit can be accessed by anyone at Fillit.ie.

Overview[edit]

Fillit is the first commercial booking platform built in Ireland.[1] [2] It is primarily a shared economy service enabling commercial landlords to list space within their property. Fillit's platform connects these listings to customers, where customers rent these spaces directly through the platform.[1]

Citing sharing economy services similar to Airbnb as an inspiration[1], co-founders John Carroll and Gianni Clifford sought to give Irish customers and businesses the opportunity to connect directly with one another without the need of a middle-man or service. The platform was originally built to facilitate retailers to book early adopters like Tesco Ireland, but has since expanded to larger experiential advertising services like pop-ups and events.[1]

Fillit’s services for landlords include calendar management, booking management, payment processing, and messaging between landlords and tenants.

Fillit’s services for tenants include nationwide booking of commercial spaces, messaging, insurance recommendations and payment processing.

How It Works[edit]

Citing functional inspiration from sharing economy services such as Airbnb, the platform is designed to operate in a similar manner. Fillit allows landlords to create and manage their own “listings” on the platform, and for prospective customers to book directly with those landlords’ listings.

Fillit’s tools allow people to send messages and pitches with templates for events, promotions and campaigns. For those receiving pitches, Fillit’s tools enable management of bookings through an integrated calendar, as well as payment processing on the platform.

History[edit]

Fillit began as a project for another Irish business: PromoSpace. PromoSpace was managing nationwide promotions for Tesco Ireland. Working with PromoSpace, John Carroll identified the opportunity to create a platform which enable businesses to connect with one another directly.

In 2016, John Carroll and Gianni Clifford began design and construction of the Fillit platform,[2] initially positioning it as an opportunity for consumers to rent out any space, “from a shelf to a warehouse”. During this Beta period, the platform gathered over 200 iconic spaces, making it the largest and most diverse provider of commercial spaces in Ireland. By June 2016, Fillit had removed the Beta tags and launched to Irish customers nationwide.[2][1]

Soon after the launch, Fillit became the exclusive platform in which Tesco Ireland managed commercial bookings in the Republic of Ireland.[2]

Management[edit]

Fillit’s business is primarily managed by John Carroll, and the platform is managed by Gianni Clifford. The early Fillit team has grown from 2016 to include product managers, developers, marketers and customer experience specialists.

Press[edit]

Fillit has made Irish headlines and been the subject of features from The Irish Times, The Sunday Business Post, Newstalk, The Journal.ie, Irish Independent, Totally Dublin, and more.

Awards[edit]

Fillit has won and been nominated for numerous Irish and European awards across categories including Best Startup, Best Irish Startup, marketing and Best User Experience. In 2017, Fillit won Best Startup from the Irish Internet Association and Best User Experience at the Eir Spiders awards.[2]
