Cases

[edit]
The Nicholson Electroplating Disaster
[edit]

The Nicholson Electroplating Disaster is based on a real incident that caused national headlines across America on 20th February 1947. The destruction and giant mushroom cloud that occurred after the massive explosion at the O’Connor Electro-Plating company on East Pico Boulevard is recreated in the game. The game adds a fictional industrial espionage story for Phelps to investigate but uses the causes of the real explosion as elements of the investigation.[1][2]

The Driver's Seat
[edit]

loosely based on the real-life 1947 disappearance of Euguene White [1]

A Marriage Made in Heaven
[edit]

inspired by the true story surrounding the death of Jay Dee Chitwood in 1944. [2]

The Red Lipstick Murder
[edit]

This case is highly influenced by the murder of Jeanne French. Jeanne French was a 45-year-old army nurse who was discovered stripped and stomped to death early in the morning in February 1947. The case was never officially solved, but was supposedly linked to the infamous "Black Dahlia" murder because the initials "B.D." were written with lipstick on French's dead body and the murder took place just weeks after the murder of Elizabeth Short (Black Dahlia), which also took place in 1947 Los Angeles.

The Silk Stocking Murder
[edit]

The story is loosely based on the real 1947 murder of Rosenda Mondragon [3]

The White Shoe Slaying
[edit]

This case is loosely based on the real-life 1947 murder of Laura Trelstad [4]

The Studio Secretary Murder
[edit]

This case is loosely based on the real-life 1947 murder of Evelyn Winters. [5]

The Set Up
[edit]

The case, both in name and in premise, is loosely based on the 1949 film "The Set-Up." The film is more about the events leading up to the fight with the boxer not knowing about the fix until near the end.

The Naked City
[edit]

The case itself, both in name and plot, is based on the 1948 film "The Naked City".
