Wentzcovitch is a Brazilian condensed matter physicist, known for her work on simulating materials at the quantum-mechanical level including participating in the Quantum ESPRESSO project. She is a professor of material science and applied physics, and of earth and environmental science, at Columbia University.[1]
Wentzcovitch has a Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley. Before joining the Columbia University faculty, she worked at the University of Minnesota. She is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science,[1] and in 2013 was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.[2]
Education
[edit]Wentzcovitch earned her BS and MSc in physics from the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, in 1980 and 1982, respectively, and her PhD in Condensed Matter Physics from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1989. She held postdoctoral fellowships at the Stony Brook University, Cavendish Labs, and Royal Institution of Great Britain[3].
