Soundproof is a low budget crime drama film. It was filmed on locations in London, Kent and Dungeness in the UK in 2018 and released in 2023.

Plot

The life of a single mum called Jo spirals out of control when an event causes her to flee her to flee the city with her two kids and is pursued by a criminal. She heads for a remote caravan on the coast. Along the way they pick up a drifter. They are all marooned in the isolated wilderness and Jo is forced to protect her children and the film explores themes of trust and families.

Production

Principle filming took place over 19 days in the summer of 2018. The film crew was a small unit employing hand-held cameras and minimal lighting for a rapid and flexible style. Operating more like a documentary crew and drawing heavily on the techniques of stills photography inspired by the visual style of Andrea Arnold and Darren Aronofsky’s The Wrestler. Soundproof was impacted and delayed by the global pandemic and was eventually completed in the spring of 2022.

Music

The music of Soundproof centres on an original score by composer Craig Brown. Music is an integral part of the story and Craig’s work is designed to create an undertone of tension and inform a deeper understanding of the action and characters.

Reception

Grant Rollings of The Sun, made Soundproof his film of the week in a review published on the 3rd July 2023. He commented that "this low-budget British drama proves it is stars rather than talent that the movie industry cares about."
