ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message[edit]

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:47, 28 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there. I’m hoping that as a member of WP:CRYPCUR you’ll be willing to take a look at some changes I’ve proposed to Digital Currency Group. Thanks for your time. CertifiedTurtle (talk) 22:26, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, thank you so much for following the COI rules. I'll have a look ASAP (in a few hours) if someone else doesn't help first. 3df (talk) 00:41, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to the 2024 WikiCup![edit]

Happy New Year and Happy New WikiCup! The 2024 competition has just begun and all article creators, expanders, improvers and reviewers are welcome to take part. Even if you are a novice editor you should be able to advance to at least the second round, improving your editing skills as you go. If you have already signed up, your submissions page can be found here. If you have not yet signed up, you can add your name here and the judges will set up your submissions page ready for you to take part. Any questions on the scoring, rules or anything else should be directed to one of the judges, or posted to the WikiCup talk page. Signups will close on 31 January, and the first round will end on 26 February; the 64 highest scorers at that time will move on to round 2. The judges for the WikiCup this year are: Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs · email), Epicgenius (talk · contribs · email), and Frostly (talk · contribs · email). Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. A special barnstar for you![edit]

Tetris barnstar
Thank you 3df for your help in expanding Wikipedia's coverage of classic Tetris and its players with me 🙂 A barnstar is the least I can do, cheers! Johnson524 04:58, 13 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hey @3df, do you mind if I respond to the talk page request by IDivideByZero first? I know you've seen it by now, so I don't want to write over you if that's what you were doing. Cheers! Johnson524 04:55, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, it's fine! 3df (talk) 05:05, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Also, thank you for the award. All these new RSes about the details of Tetris are a dream come true. 3df (talk) 05:06, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I completely agree, both the Gibson and Yu articles probably couldn't have been made even a month ago! Johnson524 05:09, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'd like to do Saelee next, maybe once the CTWC article is in better shape. 3df (talk) 05:10, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh cool! I was thinking about writing about either PixelAndy or Sindev next myself 😁 Oh, and while you're here, what do you think about the Justin Yu page? Did I cover all of the important stuff? You're the only other Tetris editor I know I can consult lol. Cheers! Johnson524 05:23, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
It looks like CTWC 2022 is omitted from the competition record table! 3df (talk) 05:30, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Omg 😵‍💫 Fixed! Johnson524 06:57, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Johnson524: Hey, have you made any decisions yet about what you'd like to write next? 3df (talk) 07:51, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@3df: Thank you for asking! I just published the page for Michael Artiaga a few minutes ago if you want to take a look at it 🙂 The one for Andrew should be published in about in hour, as I've been working on the two of their articles simultaneously when I've had the time for the past week or so, but I've been super busy in real life so progress was slow. Cheers! Johnson524 08:20, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Very cool! Do you think a Tetris WikiProject/task force would be a good idea? 3df (talk) 23:30, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@3df: I've genuinely thought about it, especially after making WikiProject Firefighting just a few days ago myself, but there hasn't been any other consistent editors of these pages as far as I'm aware. If you create it however, I will join 🙂 Cheers! Johnson524 23:46, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh! And since you asked, what article plans do you have going forward? I'm super interested. Cheers! Johnson524 23:48, 24 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I guess my to-do list has been to work on Jonas, Thor and CTWC (making progress on that) and Tetris (NES). I'd also like to start Joseph, CTM and Tetris for Famicom. That and making sure to keep stuff updated as new sources come out. 3df (talk) 00:20, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
All of those sound like important and interesting goals. I wish you the best in them, and if there is any way I can help out going forward, I'd be happy to. The Artiaga brother articles are probably the last I make for awhile, as I'm going to have to go on a wikibreak for the next few days and over the weekend as stuff is getting pretty busy for me in my life, so I hope you can continue to keep some of these Tetris pages, especially Gibson's, maintained like you said. Cheers, and thank you again for all of your invaluable contributions. Johnson524 02:58, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
That's fine, I have a lot of days off coming. These articles look really good! 3df (talk) 05:51, 25 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

WikiCup 2024 February newsletter[edit]

The 2024 WikiCup is off to a flying start, with 135 participants. This is the largest number of participants we have seen since 2017.

Our current leader is newcomer Generalissima (submissions), who has one FA on John Littlejohn (preacher) and 10 GAs and 12 DYKs mostly on New Zealand coinage and Inuit figures. Here are some more noteworthy scorers:

As a reminder, competitors may submit work for the first round until 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February, and the second round starts 1 March. Remember that only the top 64 scoring competitors will make it through to the second round; currently, competitors need at least 15 points to progress. If you are concerned that your nomination will not receive the necessary reviews, and you hope to get it promoted before the end of the round, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews. However, please remember to continue to offer reviews at GAN, FAC and all the other pages that require them to prevent any backlogs which could otherwise be caused by the Cup. As ever, questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup and the judges (Cwmhiraeth (talk · contribs), Epicgenius (talk · contribs), and Frostly (talk · contribs)) are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send. WikiCup 2024 March newsletter[edit]

The first round of the 2024 WikiCup ended at 23:59 (UTC) on 27 February. Everyone with at least 30 points moved on to Round 2, the highest number of points required to advance to the second round since 2014. Due to a six-way tie for the 64th-place spot, 67 contestants have qualified for Round 2.

The following scorers in Round 1 all scored more than 300 points:

In this newsletter, the judges would like to pay a special tribute to Vami_IV (submissions), who unfortunately passed away this February. At the time of his death, he was the second-highest-scoring competitor. Outside the WikiCup, he had eight other featured articles, five A-class articles, eight other good articles, and two Four Awards. Vami also wrote an essay on completionism, a philosophy in which he deeply believed. If you can, please join us in honoring his memory by improving one of the articles on his to-do list.

Remember that any content promoted after 27 February but before the start of Round 2 can be claimed in Round 2. Invitations for collaborative writing efforts or any other discussion of potentially interesting work is always welcome on the WikiCup talk page. Remember, if two or more WikiCup competitors have done significant work on an article, all can claim points. If you are concerned that your nomination—whether it is at good article candidates, a featured process, or anywhere else—will not receive the necessary reviews, please list it on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. If you want to help out with the WikiCup, feel free to review one of the nominations listed on Wikipedia:WikiCup/Reviews Needed. Questions are welcome on Wikipedia talk:WikiCup, and the judges are reachable on their talk pages. Good luck! If you wish to start or stop receiving this newsletter, please feel free to add or remove your name from Wikipedia:WikiCup/Newsletter/Send.
