Username[edit]

Hi! Unfortunately, your username may be in violation of Wikipedia's username policy:

Some editors on this Wikipedia will be unable to read a name written in Cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, or other scripts, and for some editors names in these scripts may be displayed only as question marks ("??? ??"), squares ("□□□ □□"), replacement characters ("??? ??") or mojibake ("Ã!%ôs*"). If your name is written in a non-Latin script, consider providing a transliteration in your signature (which you can set in your preferences), and a link to your userpage (and preferably your talk page) in your signature to allow other editors to contact you easily.

Happy new Year! I'm familiar with the username policy: I carefuly reviewed it when I chose Ζεύς as my username. I just did some more research, but I couldn't really find any rule that I am in violation of (the paragraph you quote from the username policy even assumes there to be usernames like mine and certainly doesn't forbid them). My appologies to those few that aren't able to read my username, but I chose Ζεύς quite deliberately and I'm not planning on changing it. Ζεύς 07:09, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I was quoting from the section titled, "Names with non-Latin characters". Basically, you have a similar scenario with that of Kékrōps (formerly ΚέκρωΨ). If you see his talk page, you'll find the message that says, "Your username has been blocked indefinitely because it may be rude or inflammatory, unnecessarily long/confusing, too similar to an existing user, contains the name of an organization, website or non-Latin characters, or is otherwise inappropriate". To be honest, I don't care if you change your username or not, but I am afriad someone is going to block you eventually, so you might as well get get it over with and by changing it. I understand your concerns, but I'll stick with my username nonetheless. Your example sets a questionable precedent, to say the least. Wikipedia's blocking policy states that blocks lacking policy basis are controversial, and it doesn't seem like the blocking sysop in Kékrōps's case treated it as such. I also find it somewhat ironic that the other sysop involved, ➨ ЯEDVERS, is himself in violation of the (non existing) policy that is used to justify blocking Kékrōps (in case you're wondering: the rules that apply to usernames also apply to signatures). I think if Kékrōps would have persisted, the outcome might have been the same for him, but at least a usable precedent would have been set. I'm sorry, but your arguments have not conviced me to change my username, so unless wikipedia policy changes, or someone makes a very convincing argument, I'll stick with Ζεύς 16:55, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Swimming/Water Polo[edit]

Hi Ζεύς,

I am trying to start a WaterSports Wikiproject. I got this idea when I noticed that the Phelps page did not have a picture, even when it was a featured article on the main page, and when he broke the world record. Swimming/WaterSports needs a hub of workers to help with swimming related articles. The project would include long and short course, along with water ballet, syncro, diving, water polo, open water and the players of those sports. It might be given the name WaterSport(s). Fair use rationale for Image:RhythmsdelMundoCover.png[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:RhythmsdelMundoCover.png. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hello, Ζεύς. A request has been made at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations to usurp, or "take over", your username because you have not used it to edit, and another user would like to use it to edit. Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations says that any unused username may be usurped if the user is given seven days notice to object and does not do so.

If you have an email set in your preferences, you should be getting an email from a bureaucrat or changing username clerk explaining how to consent or object to this process.
