Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, 128.131.49.217. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. MrOllie (talk) 11:50, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dear MrOllie, thanks for your message and for making me aware of this potential conflict of interest. I am not a regular contributor to Wikipedia and thus not up-to-date with the guidelines (sorry). As a scientist, I was recently involved in designing an anti-reflection structure that is discussed in my proposed amendment. Since the corresponding research was published as a peer-reviewed article (see added citation), my understanding was that this would not only be of interest to the community, but also verifiable information. Please do let me know how to proceed: should I create an account to disclose a potential conflict of interest or should I avoid such an edit altogether? Thanks in advance for your assistance in this matter, Stefan Rotter 128.131.49.217 (talk) 13:54, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If this is a shared IP address, and you did not make the edits referred to above, consider creating an account for yourself or logging in with an existing account so that you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
