Information icon Hello, I'm Toddy1. I noticed that you recently removed content from Jantar Mantar, New Delhi without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks.-- Toddy1 (talk) 18:35, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Toddy1. I noticed that you recently removed the agreed commonly-used English-language name for Aurangabad district from the article on the Ajanta Caves. This was unhelpful and has been deleted. But I agree with your point that the government has recently changed the official name for the district, and that the article should mention the new name. But it is more helpful to readers if the article mentions both names.

In Wikipedia, an article title is a natural-language word or expression that indicates the subject of the article; as such, the article title is usually the name of the person, or of the place, or of whatever else the topic of the article is. However, some topics have multiple names, and some names have multiple topics; this can lead to disagreement about which name should be used for a given article's title. Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's official name as an article title; it generally prefers the name that is most commonly used, as determined by its prevalence in a significant majority of independent, reliable, English-language sources.-- Toddy1 (talk) 18:41, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
