Wikipedia and copyright
[edit]Hello 2600:1702:4430:1680:456:DDA4:8FD9:E231! Your additions to African-American history have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, it's important to understand and adhere to guidelines about using information from sources to prevent copyright and plagiarism issues. Here are the key points:
- Limited quotation: You may only copy or translate a small portion of a source. Any direct quotations must be enclosed in double quotation marks (") and properly cited using an inline citation. More information is available on the non-free content page. To learn how to cite a source, see Help:Referencing for beginners.
- Paraphrasing: Beyond limited quotations, you are required to put all information in your own words. Following the source's wording too closely can lead to copyright issues and is not permitted; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when paraphrasing, you must still cite your sources as appropriate.
- Image use guidelines: In most scenarios, only freely licensed or public domain images may be used and these should be uploaded to our sister project, Wikimedia Commons. In some scenarios, non-freely copyrighted content can be used if they meet all ten of our non-free content criteria; Wikipedia:Plain and simple non-free content guide may help with determining a file's eligibility.
- Copyrighted material donation: If you hold the copyright to the content you want to copy, or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license the text for publication here. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
- Copying and translation within Wikipedia: Wikipedia articles can be copied or translated, however they must have proper attribution in accordance with Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. For translation, see Help:Translation § License requirements.
It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices. Persistent failure to comply may result in being blocked from editing. If you have any questions or need further clarification, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. Remsense ‥ 论 22:58, 4 September 2024 (UTC)
- you for the feedback I agree that consistency is very important for ease of use for the end user. Can you please tell me what you believe was inconsistent? I have a team of about 15 assistants all working to help add citations and information where there are flags. if you tell me what you believe specifically violated copyright rules, I can share it with the appropriate person to ensure it does to occur again 2600:1702:4430:1680:456:DDA4:8FD9:E231 (talk) 23:48, 6 September 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your contributions. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. SuperMarioOdyssy101 (talk) 23:39, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
- Super Mario thank you for the feedback I agree that consistency is very important for ease of use for the end user. Can you please tell me what you believe was inconsistent? I have a team of about 15 assistants all working to help add citations and information where there are flags. if you tell me what was not in alignment with required style I can share it with the appropriate person to ensure it does to occur again 2600:1702:4430:1680:456:DDA4:8FD9:E231 (talk) 23:47, 6 September 2024 (UTC)
Please stop your disruptive editing.
- If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor, discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page, and seek consensus with them. Alternatively you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant noticeboards.
- If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.
If you continue to disrupt Wikipedia, as you did at The Color Purple, you may be blocked from editing. DonIago (talk) 02:55, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- On "The Color Purple" page I made one small edit which was to provide a copy of the .PDF link to an open source online school that allows people to be able to read the book, if they happen to be in an area where the book is banned. The publisher has allowed it to be shared for free and even Amazon shares it at no cost https://s3.amazonaws.com/scschoolfiles/112/the-color-purple-alice-walker.pdf as it is compliant with Fair Use
- Can you please share with me and others reading where that is disallowed? Because we are working from the rules that show it is allowed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:External_links 2600:1702:4430:1680:456:DDA4:8FD9:E231 (talk) 19:11, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
- You added external links to the body of the article. See WP:NOELBODY. If you want to add external links, add them to the external links section of the article. DonIago (talk) 20:40, 10 September 2024 (UTC)

[edit]This is your only warning; if you vandalize Wikipedia again, as you did at African-American history, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Dr. Ashley Schimmel (talk) 02:59, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- The information that was provided on the African American History page was a direct citation from my last book and it was cited. can you please tell me why that was problematic. thank you 2600:1702:4430:1680:456:DDA4:8FD9:E231 (talk) 19:15, 10 September 2024 (UTC)
This is your only warning; if you insert a spam link to Wikipedia again, as you did at I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted, preventing anyone from linking to them from all Wikimedia sites as well as potentially being penalized by search engines. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 05:14, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, but a recent edit of yours to the page I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings has an edit summary that appears to be inadequate, inaccurate, or inappropriate. The summaries are helpful to people browsing an article's history, so it is important that you use edit summaries that accurately tell other editors what you did. Feel free to use the sandbox to make test edits. Thank you. 49ersBelongInSanFrancisco (talk) 05:15, 7 September 2024 (UTC)
- On "I know why the caged bird sings" page I made two small edits, the first was to spell out the full title of the book and the second which was to provide a copy of the .PDF link to an open source online school that allows people to be able to read the book, if they happen to be in an area where the book is banned. The publisher has allowed it to be shared for free
