- Description
- I wanted to publish how to get a smiley emoji on your computer, by pressing alternate and 1 on the right keyboard. But it said no emojis and said to report it if it is wrong.

Hi :) The message you have received is "It is almost never appropriate to add emoji and other unicode icons (e.g. ♥, ☺, ☢, ☮) to Wikipedia articles", which is correct. Thank you very much for respecting the warning and not submitting the edit. It is clear that you have been acting in good faith, but this specific addition would not really have improved the article. There seem to be multiple problems with this submission:
- MOS:YOU: Avoid addressing the reader using you or your, which sets an inappropriate tone.
- WP:NOTHOWTO: While Wikipedia has descriptions of people, places and things, an article should not read like a "how-to" style owner's manual, cookbook, advice column (legal, medical or otherwise) or suggestion box. This includes tutorials, instruction manuals, game guides, and recipes. Describing to the reader how people or things use or do something is encyclopedic; instructing the reader in the imperative mood about how to use or do something is not. Such guides may be welcome at Wikibooks instead.
- The only relevant information of your addition, how a smiley looks like, is already covered in the next sentences.
Hope this helps! ~ ToBeFree (talk) 01:55, 4 April 2018 (UTC)
