[edit]

I write to you with reference to the content of Green Grabbing:

The article in the Guardian by John Vidal is factually incorrect: Whilst I have bought 400,000 acres of land in the Amazonas, I have never asked any person to buy land in the Amazonas. Neither has Cool Earth ever sought or claimed to have bought land.

It is true that the Brazilian government have been critical of foreign buyers of rainforest, but I have never been accused by the Brazilian government to be a Green Grabber. Mr Vidal's article does not refer to me as a Green Grabber, and his definition of green grabbing extends to those who acquire rainforest for gain through carbon emission trading or eco-tourism, neither of which I have ever engaged in. My rainforest is purely for conservation purposes at great cost, and Cool Earth financially support local NGO’s with funding mainly for rainforest local community projects. By Vidal’s own definition I cannot be characterised as ‘Green Grabber’.

I have never, nor have I ever been accused of expunging indigenous or peasant communities from my land. To the opposite, I have made land available to local indigenous populations for their benefit to make livelihoods out harvesting fruits and nuts.

I hope I have explained why your post is factually incorrect, the inferences you draw from Vidal's article have no foundation, and is defamatory. Please kindly remove the reference to myself without delay.

[edit]

The only truth is that I have been referred to as an eco-colonialist by the Brazilian government to further their political purposes of deflecting their poor track record of protecting the Amazonas rainforest. However, this is an entirely false statement. Buying land in a foreign country to preserve rainforest is not colonialism. With regards to Green Grabbing - Eco-Colonialism and Green Grabbing are two defined terms with different meaning. Vidal’s article does not suggest that I am a Green Grabber; it only refers to the aforementioned statement by the Brazilian government. Therefore to refer to Johan Eliasch in relation to Green Grabbing is not only deliberately misleading but also libellous and defamatory. I believe I have now explained this very clearly, and please understand that there are implications of libel and defamation, so please be so kind to remove the reference to myself and Cool Earth under Green Grabbing without further delay. Elysia Webb, I understand you are the one who has made this defamatory and libellous posting. I will hold you personally liable for damages, and this will be a matter for a court of law to determine. Additionally, i will take your advice and complain to Wikipedia directly about your egregious conduct. Johan Eliasch
