Please do not unnecessarily change between CE and AD as you did at Ancient Hawaii. See MOS:ERA for guidelines on this. Thanks Thriftycat TalkContribs 20:29, 21 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Thriftycat. I noticed that you recently removed content from Flag of the Netherlands without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Hello, I had removed that part of the article as I believe it to be incorrect. The colours of the French flag result from the combination of the flag of Paris (red and blue) with the former Royal flag (white), they were not inspired by the Dutch flag.
I also looked at the sources 11 and 12, which were attached to that paragraph, and they said nothing about a Dutch inspiration for the French flag.
Sorry for not putting an explanation with my edit. 38.100.196.164 (talk) 20:26, 8 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, and thanks for the reply! I can't look at the book source, as I don't have access to it, but I did examine the Britannica source,[1] and I noticed that it does back up the fact, albeit briefly. Under the "Luxembourg and the Netherlands" section, it states: "The Dutch began using a red, white, and blue horizontally striped flag...This flag became the inspiration for the vertically striped French Tricolor."
