Hello, I'm Hey man im josh. I noticed that in this edit to Carnival Eats, you removed content without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. Hey man im josh (talk) 16:09, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

4.7.132.22 is a public (K-12) school district in Virginia, USA. I'm an employee of that school district, and would suggest that permanently blocking anonymous edits from this IP address is probably advisable. The disruptive edits come from students, and kids will be kids! Even if I catch and stop one or two from doing it now, there will be different students doing it in the near future, and so on. It's just an unending stream and dealing with individual students will not address the recurring problem. The only reasonable thing I can think of to stop it on our end would be to entirely block Wikipedia to students, which I am reluctant to do. However, if you would prefer us to go this route, I can probably do that instead. Smyslov (talk) 13:09, 6 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Smyslov, are there any more IPs? Such school IPs usually come in a range. Drmies (talk) 23:30, 29 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
All user traffic on our school district's network will come from a single exit point: 4.7.132.22 . Sorry about the trouble. I could see that lots of students hit Wikipedia, but there's not really a way for me to single out which ones are the vandals. And even if I did identify those in particular, that's not even the tip of the iceberg, and this issue will likely continue forever unless we block Wikipedia entirely to our students. If it's possible to put a permanent block on anonymous edits from that IP address, it's probably the way to go! Please let me know if I can provide any more info or you want me to try anything in particular on our end. Smyslov (talk) 00:48, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Smyslov, ha, no I would not ask you to start policing the place or provide me with any personal information. Like I said, in my experience sometimes schools have a (narrow) range of IP addresses, and in such cases a rangeblock makes sense, but if there's just one, then the block I placed should suffice--at least for a year. We are somewhat hesitant to place longer blocks on IP addresses, as I'm sure you understand, because things do change. If it happens again, we can block again, but judging from the edits, we're dealing with just one single person. Maybe they'll graduate soon! Drmies (talk) 14:01, 30 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
