Mergers

Welcome to Wikipedia and thanks for your edits. Just to let you know, there's a variety of different mergers, and they're distinctly different from one another. As a run-down on the different merger types regarding business outcomes, here's what they are and how they differ from one another.

A statutory merger is a merger in which the acquiring company survives and the target company dissolves. The purpose of this merger is to transfer the assets and capital of the target company into the acquiring company without having to maintain the target company as a subsidiary. Square Enix is an example of this.

A consolidated merger is a merger in which an entirely new legal company is formed through combining the acquiring and target company. The purpose of this merger is to create a new legal entity with the capital and assets of the merged acquirer and target company. Both the acquiring and target company are dissolved in the process. B.B. Studio is an example of this.

I understand that it's preferable to be as simple as possible when it comes to Wikipedia, but the differences with mergers through business outcomes is fundamental knowledge. This is WP:FANCRUFT and of interest to only a minority of enthusiasts about the topic. It is also redundant as well because those same sentences mention that Enix/Namco absorded Square/Bandai meaning that the "statutory" aspect is already implicitly mentionned in those same sentences.

I suppose you make a justifed point. However, don't bring up edit warring to your defence, when you yourself are edit warring. "An editor who repeatedly restores his or her preferred version is edit warring, regardless of whether their edits were justifiable: "but my edits were right, so it wasn't edit warring" is no defense". Banpresto video game discography

Seeing as the current iteration of Banpresto as a legal entity has no affiliations with its origin as a video game company, and the fact that the video game assets were merged with BEC to form B.B. Studio, I propose that Banpresto's video game discography is placed within the B.B. Studio article. What are your thoughts on this? Iftekharahmed96 (talk) 10:55, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

I would be against placing Banpresto's discography on the B.B Studio entry for two reasons.

1) From a technical legal standpoint, BB Studio is neither the old Banpresto nor BEC. And because B.B Studio is legally not the 1977 Banpresto, I cannot support the idea of inserting Banpresto's discography on BB's article.

2) Even if B.B Studio was legally the old 1977 Banpresto, I would still be against the idea anyway because video games lists on Wikipedia are classified by names, not by legal entities. For example the original Namco is officially now Bandai Namco Entertainment. But that doesn't stop a video game like Steel Gunner 2 from being listed on the List of Namco games article instead of the List of Bandai Namco games entry. The reason for this is that it makes more sense for Steel Gunner 2 to be listed on the former rather than the latter.

On second thoughts, why not just have a separate article called List of Banpresto video games detailing the video game discography of Banpresto? The brand did originate as a video game developer and publisher before being bought by Bandai. Iftekharahmed96 (talk) 11:14, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

I think the idea is great as long as you remember that such article would include only Banpresto video games and not the ones from B.B Studios. (Think of my Steel Gunner 2 example above as a reminder).

Reference templates

Thanks for your work on some of Wikipedia's unreferenced/poorly-referenced articles! However, please don't remove {{unreferenced}} templates from articles that have no references. Removing questionable, uncited information is fine, but the referencing templates should remain until the references are actually improved. GorillaWarfare (talk) 20:36, 1 October 2017 (UTC)
