[edit]Welcome to Wikipedia. Everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia. However, please do not add promotional material to articles or other Wikipedia pages, as you did to James May. Advertising and using Wikipedia as a "soapbox" is strongly discouraged. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. Rodhullandemu 15:56, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did with this edit to the page Jason Bradbury. Such edits constitute vandalism and are reverted. Please do not continue to make unconstructive edits to pages; use the sandbox for testing. Thank you. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 15:57, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Please do not vandalize pages, as you did with this edit to Phil Spencer. If you continue to do so, you will be blocked from editing. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 16:07, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
Your edits
[edit]Please stop providing agent contact details on certain wikipedia articles. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing. Thank you. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 16:09, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
This is your last warning. You will be blocked from editing the next time you vandalize a page, as you did with this edit to Kirstie Allsopp. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 16:10, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
I am new to Wikipedia and was told I could add agent details as it's a key bit of information regarding the presenters. can you please explain why I have been accused of vandlising the web page? AE13
- Amongst other reasons, you might want to review the policies and guidelines regarding conflict of interest, what Wikipedia is not, and external link spamming. Kevin Forsyth (talk) 16:29, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) If you are new to wikipedia, you can read the introduction which will help. In some of your edits, such as this one, you added personal contact details, which is against wikipedia policy. You are welcome to mention the agent, but it doesn't need its own section. All additions must be sourced as well.
- If you need any help, you can place {{helpme}} on this page followed by your question, or you can ask me here. Thanks. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 16:32, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
{{help me}} i would like to add the agent name to a couple of presenters on wikipedia. how do i do this within the wikipedia rules. i understand I can not add contact details. thank you for your help AE13
- (edit conflict)Our general guideline is here. Wikipedia should not be used for promotion of people or causes. The advice you were given above is incomplete- agents may be added, but only if relevant to the article in question, and I doubt that an exception would be made for your clients; we don't do it, for example, in articles for John Travolta, Tom Cruise or Jodie Foster, so it's unlikely your additions would be acceptable. Perhaps you should also take a look at this policy. Thanks. Rodhullandemu 16:53, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) I doubt that it will be appropriate to add the agents, but what you could do is, suggest your edit on the article talk page, and see if other editors will agree to it. Cheers, Chzz ► 16:50, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
- Could you also start signing your posts with four tildes (~~~~). This shows your username plus the date. Thanks. Oliver Fury, Esq. message • contributions 16:52, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
{{help me}} can you please let me know if its possible to add a link to their biog on their agents website under the references section as I have looked at other presenters and this seems acceptable?! many presenters seem to have biog links on their pages if it's supporting something written within career/personal headings etc. thank you.AE13 (talk) 18:57, 8 July 2009 (UTC)AE13
- Hi again. I would not be appropriate to use as a reference, because it would be a) not necessarily a reliable source, and b) probably a primary source. It is however possible that it would be a useful addition as an external link - please review WP:EL. As before, considering the controversial nature, I suggest not making the edits yourself, but instead, suggesting them on the article discussion page. Chzz ► 19:18, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
That's great - thank you so much you have been really helpful! AE13 (talk) 20:42, 8 July 2009 (UTC)AE13
Reply/sandbox
[edit]Please read my reply in user talk:chzz#thank you, and then read the below.
You can make as many pages in your userspace as you like, for example user:AE13/test, user:AE13/sandbox, user:AE13/sausages or whatever. You can create articles and test things out there with no problems; it's not a 'live' article and nobody will bother you much (as long as there are no legal problems such as copyright violations, etc). The easiest way to make a convenient way to access such things is to edit your user page (user:AE13), and put links to them on there - such as, [[user:AE13/test]]. This will currently be a redlink, and you could then click on it and create the page.
Hope this helps, Chzz ► 22:09, 8 July 2009 (UTC)
