Happy New Year, Adamdaley!

Send New Year cheer by adding {{subst:Happy New Year fireworks}} to user talk pages.

  • 🎉Happy New Year to you and yours, Adam, from me and mine. I hope 2023 is good year for you, a year that will see your various travails IRL start to go your way, and also a year during which we will hopefully see you return to the project. Cheers!🥂 - wolf 07:14, 2 January 2023 (UTC)
I was up till about 4 am when it hit New Year. Could just header some fireworks going off where I am. Last few days, I've been wanting to come ask to come back to edit, but I tell myself, they'll just ban me again. I have kept track of the newer articles that have been accumulated since my ban. I estimate about 238 articles since my ban. Be another 476 by the time I come back. At least Moops appreciates those edits I did, among a few others users. Really, not thought about it much. I just remind myself, if I was allowed to be back, sh!t will just happen again and it certainly wouldn't be because of me, someone will complain. That's why I'm hesitant about coming back. What will happen? What "restrictions" will there be? Basically, if I had to count how many people complained, that would be more than the ones who have supported my edits. I'm disappointed that WP:MILHIST was not more supportive. Thought they'd have my back regardless since I've been there for a good period of time. I've worked out my financial sh!t for February 2023 onwards, looks like I'll be in debt at a fortnightly rate due to the current Government. It's either choose to feed myself or pay the bills. I basically have no choice in which. Can't do both. Adamdaley (talk) 08:50, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

Hi, Adam, I just wanted to chime in and add my best wishes for a Happy New Year as well. As far as asking to come back, if you recall the conditions under which you were blocked (see above; diff ), you shouldn't even try that before 3 April 2023; if you do, you'll probably be locked down even longer. The "indefinite" block does not mean "infinite" block, but ignoring the terms of your block and appealing before that date will probably lengthen your block, so don't do that. Instead, just concentrate on building your experience and clean track record at simple or commons. A brief comment here, as you did above, to respond to New Year's wishes is probably okay, but it would be best not to communicate here much before April. You're welcome to ping me (or Wolf, or whomever you like) from Simple or Commons if you want, and I'll respond there. All the best to you, Adam. Mathglot (talk) 23:00, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

My ban is till when April 2? Then that would mean April 3 where I am. It amazes me that so many were supportive of my edits, but when when others disagree when I actually follow a WikiProject by its template on its page, I get banned. I'm saying that following a template or at least an updated one with WP:MILHIST has over the years I get banned. It's clear that Zawed has it out for me. Besides, who does he think he is? Superman? Just another regular user on Wikipedia. I have nothing to do with him, period. I may not add content to articles like others do ona regular basis, tried my best in cleaning up talkpages when there were not only errors but fixed WP Banners as well. It takes all types of people to make Wikipedia work, just when someone follows a template nobody likes people doing that! Doing that is illegal. Anyway, I may not have access to the internet so enjoy yourselves. Thanks Mathglot nice knowing you and Wolf. Adamdaley (talk)
I'm still undecided if I will return in April 2023. Got my financial impact starting February and in serious debt due to the NSW Government and fighting NCAT for my mother to return home. Adamdaley (talk) 04:39, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
(edit conflict) No, your "block" (not ban; that is something else) is indefinite, which means it doesn't have a specific end point, so it lasts until an admin lifts it, which could be any time, or never. By April, I was referring to the conditions of your block, which I linked above; or you can click "here"; see the part where it says, "You may appeal this after six months and not before"? That's what I meant about April, because 3 April is six months from the date of that message. But your block doesn't "expire" then; it stays until it is lifted. Your comments about other editors in your reply above are unfortunate, and will not help you. For your own sake, I strongly urge you to just shift your attention to simple:# or commons:# now, and stop responding here. Your welcome, and the feeling is mutual. If you feel a need to respond (you don't have to), then please do so from simple:User talk:Adamdaley. Take care, Mathglot (talk) 04:40, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
Same ol' shit. Either way, as I said, I have thought about it, but never formally asked. There is a difference. Since everyone wants to get down to specifics sure go ahead. Still followed a formal template. People can't change it to suit their own needs that'd be something amazing and doubt Wikipedia would allow it. Still followed it regardless and blocked for doing so. It just amazes me that the Wikipedia wants it a certain way and I did it that way now I get mixed messages that it shouldn't be followed. Adamdaley (talk) 05:01, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
Funny enough people can say shit about me, but yet when I say a funny comeback I don't care really it's frowned upon. Don't want to interact with him anyway. Hasn't made my life any better worse or for the better. Adamdaley (talk) 05:06, 3 January 2023 (UTC)
Hey Adam, I know these are difficult times for you right now, but you don't want to make things worse. Val, the admin, was clear that you are not to use your talk page to argue about your block or the issues that led to it. You should stop doing that. You could end up having your talk page access revoked, meaning that there would be no further communication on this page, and if/when the time comes that you want to appeal your block, you will have to do so via UTRS.

It would probably be best to follow Mathglot's suggestion to use your talk pages at simple or commons to communicate. Or use email... you know you can email me if you need to talk or vent. Work on the things you can now, the important things like the stuff going on at home. Hopefully when the first week of April comes about, you will be in a better place, and you will file a successful unblock request and rejoin us here on the project. In the meantime, take care. - wolf 06:15, 3 January 2023 (UTC)

I'm only here because of your ping but just want to note I don't have "it out" for you. In any event, just focus on the stuff at home, that is far more important. No need to reply. Zawed (talk) 05:28, 6 January 2023 (UTC)

mIRC

Smjg In reply to what was said on mIRC talkpage. During 1998 - 2005 I did use mIRC quite a lot. Had several channels. I do still have mIRC installed, hardly ever go on it now. What is being discussed to have me involved? Adamdaley (talk) 21:43, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

Adam, Smjg has "email this user" enabled on their userpage. You would probably be better off deleting this and emailing them instead. This is the kind of thing you could lose you talk page access over. (jmho) - wolf 00:02, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
I'm merely replying to something. I'm not arguing about anything. Merely wanting to know how I can help this person. I'm not bring up why I'm banned. I'm not editing any WikiProjects. Just wanting to know how I can help with the discussion in question on the mIRC talkpage since I can't reply there I have simply ask them to reply here. Adamdaley (talk) 03:36, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
For the most part, blocked users are only supposed to use their user talk pages to get unblocked. (As in, you waiting until your 6 months is up, and then posting an unblock request). If your tpa is revoked, you can only request an unblock via UTRS... you don't want that. Your best course of action is to drop this, remove this thread, and either talk to this user by other means, or wait until you're unblocked. It would be silly to put your potential return in jeopardy just for this. (just my two cents, take it or leave it, up to you) - wolf 05:56, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
At this stage and for several weeks I'm not contemplating coming back. As several people have made it clear that what I was doing is done. I don't see myself coming back in April 2023. This whole situation has left me with a bad taste in my mouth and negative thoughts for this whole organisation as a whole. I'm sorry, it is what it is. A nightmare gone wrong. Anyway, I do appreciate ALL the positve support that has been given by yourself, Mathglot and others who have given me their support in private over the last year or two and various years earlier. I am a little disappointed that certain people didn't support me who I thought had an ok relationship with, now leaves me questioning if I should return. Yes. Recently have found a new interest on here, but that remains to see if I am ultimately unblocked. I was merely replying to comments on mIRC talkpage. No bad intentions here in trying to help. Adamdaley (talk) 06:43, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
Well, it's unfortunate you feel that way, but it's also unfortunate that you're missing the point of my response to this thread in the first place; which is you really shouldn't be using your talk page for this, regardless of how innocent and benign you believe it to be. IF you do decide to seek to return in April, and IF you've lost talk page access, returning will be more difficult and more unlikely. That's all I was trying to say. As advice, you can take it or leave it. Like you say... "it is what it is". - wolf 12:38, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
Different instant messaging platforms seem to be best suited to different uses:
  • one-to-one chatting (seems to have been the main use back in the day of MSN Messenger, AIM and others, and one of the main uses of WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger)
  • chatting in groups of people who know each other (the other main use of WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger)
  • random chatting with strangers (seems to be the main use of IRC and web-based chatrooms)
So I was just wondering whether your statement "Other programs such as ICQ, Yahoo Messenger, MSN Messenger etc are easier to use than mIRC" was really about people using these programs for the same things they would have used mIRC for.
As Thewolfchild says, please feel free to use the 'Email this user' link from my userpage if you wish. I think it's probably better than continuing the discussion here if you wish to continue it. — Smjg (talk) 13:42, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
