Hello! Thank you for creating the draft about this award. I've removed the award texts that you recently added, as they are copied from the plaque texts, whose copyright is owned by the Alaska Geological Society. I'd recommend giving a read over Wikipedia:Copyright violations to avoid problems like this in the future. Best regards, Vermont (🐿️🏳️‍🌈) 03:32, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also, I just understood your username. I love that, haha.
I did some searching to find secondary sources about the award, and I didn't find anything about it specifically: only a mention of it in the context of someone who was part of the inaugural class of awardees.
There's also no article about the Alaska Geological Society more generally. So, my thought then was to see if there's enough sources about the society and its award combined to write an article. Unfortunately, that seems like a no: I didn't find much in the way of secondary coverage about the society.
In short: I'm not sure if there can be an article about this topic, as it doesn't seem to meet the notability guideline. Vermont (🐿️🏳️‍🌈) 03:45, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the input! Very helpful! I added those plaque quotes because of a previous comment. If I reference the AGS page would that provide enough of a reference to go forward?
The geosciences in alaska tends to be poorly documented in general. We were hoping a wiki page would help spread the word about this award. 216.67.113.81 (talk) 06:16, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And I provided a web link for the alaska geological society. Did that not go thru? 216.67.113.81 (talk) 06:17, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, Wikipedia isn't a place to write about things that don't have significant coverage already. As an encyclopedia (a tertiary source), Wikipedia content is based on reliable secondary sources, and in some specific cases primary sources. Naturally, sufficient coverage in reliable sources needs to exist to be able to create an article about something.
The specific wording for this is known as the general notability guideline: "A topic is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list when it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject."
In other words, Wikipedia can have an article after something has become well known, and is not a place to make it well known to begin with. Best regards, Vermont (🐿️🏳️‍🌈) 01:29, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for taking the time to clarify that for me. This is my first foray into creating a wiki page, and I’ve learned a lot. 216.67.113.81 (talk) 04:07, 20 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
