Handling your relationship with the late Susan Bulmer

[edit]

While the article is a draft you may edit it to your heart's content. After acceptance the rules change so that you may only request edits (except for small facts) on the article's talk page. you do this by placing {{Request edit}} on the article's talk page under a new section heading, and then detail the precise edit you feel appropriate below it, listing the references that you woudl use to cite the new element.

You also need to declare your conflict of interest formally. On Draft talk:Susan Bulmer place the text I have highlighted on the next line, modified in any way you see fit:

{{Connected contributor | User1 = Alice Bulmer | U1-EH = yes | U1-declared = yes |U1-otherlinks = I am Susan Bulmer's daughter |U1-banned =no}}

On your own user page, User:Alice Bulmer place the text on the next line, again modified in any way you see fit:

{{UserboxCOI |1=Draft:Susan Bulmer |2=Susan Bulmer |text=I am Susan Bulmer's daughter}}

Obviously you do not copy and paste the <nowiki></nowiki> tags.

Doing these things puts you 100% in the clear with WIkipedia's rules and processes. Fiddle Faddle 06:36, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

infobox

[edit]

As you can see, I have added an infobox to the draft. PLease check and correct any errors I have made by assumption.

If you have a portrait picture of your mother to which you own the copyright (that is, one where you pressed the shutter yourself or one that was part of your mother's estate left to you in her will) please upload that and add it to the infobox. If you did not take the photograph you cna state that the copyright was left to you in her estate, which ought to satisfy licencing requirements. Don't worry about size. Upload the best that you can. Wikipedia's systems handle the rest, including sizing in the infobox. Fiddle Faddle 07:11, 30 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am writing to suggest some corrections and additions to the Wikipedia entry for the ethnobiologist and anthropologist Ralph Bulmer. This entry has many incorrect details and also ungrammatical sentences. I am Ralph’s daughter, so I am unable to make corrections myself under Wikipedia rules. I would greatly appreciate your assistance. Here are my suggestions: 1. Early Life section: “Siblings” is an incorrect word. I suggest rewording: “the oldest of three children of Kenneth…. And I suggest ending the section: These were both strong influences on Ralph.

Here’s the complete Early Life section with my suggested corrections: Ralph (pronounced "Rafe") Bulmer was born in Hereford, the oldest of three children of Kenneth, who worked at the National Westminster Bank, and his wife Dorothy. Dorothy's father was an archaeologist and Kenneth was interested in nature. These were both strong influences on Ralph.

2. “received a BA in 1953” – correction: “received an MA in 1953”.. 3. Career: This section has some incorrect details. Here’s my suggested rewrite: In 1959 Bulmer began to study the Kalam people, along with linguists Bruce Biggs and Andrew Pawley. Bulmer was a pioneer in the field of ethnobiology, particularly documenting the Kalam people.[1] Some of his well-known works were on ethnozoological classification, including "Why is the Cassowary Not a Bird? A Problem of Zoological Taxonomy Among the Karam of the New Guinea Highlands".[2] From the 1970s Bulmer collaborated with a Kalam hunter and naturalist, Ian Saem Majnep. They co-wrote several books and other publications, including Birds of My Kalam Country (Auckland University Press 1977). Majnep was the primary author. Bulmer served as Foundation Professor of Social Anthropology at the University of Papua New Guinea (1968-73). From 1974 to 1988 he was Professor of Anthropology at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. 4. Personal life The section which refers to Ralph’s first wife, Ellaine, getting pregnant to someone else while he was in New Guinea. I request that this sentence be deleted from the Wikipedia entry for the following reasons: 1. The information is not based on quality Wikipedia reference sources, i.e. peer-reviewed publications and/or mainstream media publications. 2. This sentence is hurtful, sexist and offensive to a living person, i.e. Ellaine. 3. This information is not directly relevant to the research and career of Ralph Bulmer. The statement that Ellaine returned to England while Ralph was doing fieldwork in New Guinea is also incorrect (and poorly sourced). 5. Suggested addition: Ralph Bulmer had four children: one daughter and two sons with his second wife, Susan; and one son with his third wife, Lena. 6. Susan Hirsch – this is incorrect spelling. The correct spelling is Susan Hirsh. Ref Wikipedia page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Susan_Bulmer 7. The publisher and publication date details of Man and a Half: Essays in Pacific Anthropology and Ethnobiology in Honour of Ralph Bulmer, edited by Andrew Pawley are incorrect: the publisher is Journal of the Polynesian Society, Auckland, 1991 8. Writings: I suggest including: A Dictionary of Kalam with Ethnographic Notes (Pacific Linguistics, 2011) By Andrew Pawley, Ralph Bulmer, John Kias, Peter Gi and Ian Saem Majnep (NB Here’s a review: https://www.jstor.org/stable/43286378?seq=1) 9. References: I suggest Man and a Half should be included in the references section as it is a peer reviewed publication, rather than in the external links section. I hope this is helpful. Please ask me if you need any clarifications.. Thankyou for your assistance. Alice ----
