Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 12:23, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

I received no compensation for the edits I have made. I'm now aware of the reasons I was blocked for, and shall try to the best of my ability to not repeat them. I intent to publish articles covering many aspects of life in the UAE, especially those around businesses and commerce, traditional and emerging.

Decline reason:

I see that you improperly claimed that the logo of the company was your own work- logos are typically used under fair use, meaning that they can't be uploaded to Commons(which only hosts "free" images) and they cannot be in drafts. As part of being unblocked you will need to agree to make the Terms of Use required paid editing disclosure and also agree to not edit about your company, at least in the near term. 331dot (talk) 08:37, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

You didn't pick this company at random to edit about. What is your association with them? 331dot (talk) 13:33, 29 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @331dot
I worked in the company. I'm trying to create a profile on Wikipedia. Almarwanheavymachinery (talk) 05:07, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
OK, then, you do realize that per our conflict of interest policy (short version), you can't edit about them. What other aspects of life in the UAE would you write articles about? Daniel Case (talk) 06:14, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
So you don't currently work for the company? We don't have "profiles" here, not a single one, we have articles. 331dot (talk) 08:19, 30 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you all for clarifying the matter regarding wiki policies, and I would like to sincerely apologize for any confusion or misunderstanding.
While I am not particularly receiving any sort of compensation, I must clarify that I do work for a subsidiary of Al Marwan Heavy Machinery's, though I was not commissioned to create an article on behalf of the company. As I previously stated, I am interested in covering articles on current Sharjah-based UAE businesses, among which was my company, as a starting "play-around", which now I understand was a mistake. I also now realize the fault I made registering my account under the company name (which I found to be harmless since I used my corporate email address), which now I am requesting to change to my real name.
I admit that I did not have a full understanding of Wikipedia's codes and policies when I initially joined the community. As a new member, I didn't realize the conflict of interest implications, thinking that they do not apply to me 100% (since I'm neither owner, nor direct employee, and that I am not gaining any financial benefit for doing so). I genuinely appreciate your guidance and the documents you shared regarding this, as I now understand the importance of maintaining neutrality and avoiding editing articles about subjects with which I have a close connection.
Moving forward, I am committed to learning from this experience and contributing positively to Wikipedia within the boundaries of its guidelines. I would be grateful for any specific recommendations or suggestions you may have regarding topics or areas where my contributions would be welcome.
Once again, I apologize for any confusion or disruption. I hope to rectify the situation and regain access to my account where I can contribute to the Wikipedia community responsibly. Thank you for your understanding and time.
P.S. I must ask, should I wish to carry on creating that specific article, how would I go about that? Can I task this article to someone who's 100% not connected to the company, and hand them over the basic facts only? Appreciate your advice. Almarwanheavymachinery (talk) 10:56, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If you task/hire someone to create an article, that creates a connection to the company. 331dot (talk) 12:53, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Is the subsidiary you work for involved in marketing efforts for the company? 331dot (talk) 12:58, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
We're also not interested in "basic facts" An article about a company must summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the company, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable company. 331dot (talk) 20:09, 31 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your response and for sharing the article on notability guidelines. I understand that hiring someone to create the article would still create a connection to the company. Regarding your question about the subsidiary I work for, yes, we are involved in marketing efforts for the company.
As for the requirements for an article about a company, and the need for independent reliable sources with significant coverage. I can assure you that there are ample sources available that cite the company, showcasing its notable achievements and contributions to the industry. Such sources include Construction Business News, Gulf Construction Online, Plant Machinery Vehicles, Powerscreen, among others.
While I understand the importance of meeting Wikipedia's standards, I would like to note that there are other articles in a similar domain that may not have fully adhered to the notability guidelines. I could count a few like Unibeton, Liwa, and Mondo Ride (I chose these as references [and stub] in particular, based on the intention I had; as discussed previously). I believe that with the appropriate sourcing and diligent editing, a well-rounded and informative article can be created for this company and others as children of Category:Companies of the United Arab Emirates.
I would like to note that creating articles within that very category poses a challenge as it borders on commercial/advertising content, which is not in line with Wikipedia's guidelines. However, I have observed that certain articles in a similar domain exist on Wikipedia despite these concerns. While I understand the need to maintain neutrality and avoid promotional content, I'd like to follow the guidelines and ensure that any articles I prepare for the company in question or any other business maintain an unbiased and informative tone. Almarwanheavymachinery (talk) 09:32, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please see other stuff exists. If there are other inappropriate articles, those should be identified and removed, not used as justification to add more. We can only address what we know about; there are many ways to get inappropriate content past us.
You may make a new request for someone else to review, but you won't be unblocked to, at this time, edit about your company. 331dot (talk) 09:53, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
