Invite to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section. ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, Amccann421. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

New Page Review - newsletter

Breaking the back of the backlog
We now have 805 New Page Reviewers! Most of you requested the user right to be able to do something about the huge backlog. Now it's time for action.
Mid July to 01 Oct 2016

If each reviewer does only 10 reviews a day over five days, the backlog will be down to zero and the daily input can then be processed by each reviewer doing only 2 or 3 reviews a day - that's about 5 minutes work!
Let's get that over and done with in time to relax for the holidays.

Not only are New Page Reviewers the guardians of quality of new articles, they are also in a position to ensure that pages are being correctly tagged for deletion and maintenance and that new authors are not being bitten. BBC 12-hour Editathon - large influx of new pages & drafts expected

Gambino Family

I was going to go back in and add sources. There was a major initiative among researchers to create a definitive and accurate time line of the Gambino family's administration. I will find the sources for the info (the project was completed about 2 years ago) and ensure that each entry is sourced.

Vlad the Impaler

Dear amccann421, The reason for this correspondence is to correct any misunderstandings that could be taken. The changes I made to this article are ones of great importance. First of all, Vlad was Romanian, not English. His name is not American. I'm going to assume that you're not Romanian nor do you speak the language. I am and I do. Secondly, I'm going to assume that you've never lived in Romania nor have you ever even been there. Again, I have. All Romanian academia knows the history of Vlad. The only reason why the name "Dracula" might even be used is to attract tourists, only to introduce them to his true history. Thirdly, he signed his name as "Wladislaus Dragwlya" - the modern Romanian form being Drăculea. The -ea ending means "of the". All educated Romanians know this. Forgive me for being blunt, but why do you feel the need to change something of which you know nothing about?? In addition, you should already know that Wikipedia does not always contain the most correct info. For example, the author of this article should have been more careful with his spelling. He cited Vladislav II earlier, and then without reason began using the name Vladislaus II. This is careless. Before undoing changes, you should never assume anything. Opinion is worthless. What you "feel" should or shouldn't be in the article is irrelevant. What you "feel" are "old forms" vs modern is again irrelevant - especially if you don't know the language. That's like someone from another country who doesn't speak English trying to correct you on something in which you're an expert. Do you see the lunacy in that? However, that's exactly what you're doing. It doesn't matter what you think...the only thing that matters is TRUTH. Vlad is a national hero for us and we value what he did for our country. The world deserves to know the truth and to have the media silenced regarding all this sadistic vampiric nonsense! The only reason why the name Dracula is even used is because of Bram Stoker. After all, he was never even called that. Lastly, if Vlad's history interests you, I would strongly suggest reading something from a Romanian academic, NOT American ( i.e. Raymond McNally among numerous others) who only live to emphasize and capitalize on the macabre and the propaganda. I've spent years researching and reading about Vlad, and can spot errors immediately (i.e. dates, names, places, etc.). Please forgive any misunderstanding or harshness as that was not my intention. I react rather forcefully (and sometimes indignantly) when people tamper with things they know nothing about - especially others ' history. My only intent was to provide truth and correct any error. California City, California Wikipage

I'm Chuck G (Charli Gulley). I've been asked by the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Alexia Svejda, as well as Mayor Jennifer A. Wood, to make changes to our our California City, California Wikipage.

Hi, Charlisimo. You are free to edit the page at will. However, a couple things:
First, you must provide sources for anything that might be challenged by other editors. For example, if changing the official name of California City, a link to an official website will suffice. See Wikipedia's guides on verifiability and reliable sources.
Second, please read our guide on conflicts of interest. You must maintain a neutral point of view and may not include anything that is promotional, advertising, or public relations. If you feel unable to write in an impartial manner, please let me or another editor know, and we will certainly be pleased to edit on your behalf in order to maintain a NPOV. All promotional and non-neutral edits will be reverted.

Hey Amccann421, I was wondering if you could explain why you accepted this edit? Not only did it have a broken set of brackets added, but as far as I can tell, it isn't an example of a hail mary pass. It also had no sources supporting it.
