A tag has been placed on Columbia Touch Rugby Association MD requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Help request

{{helpme}}

I crested a page that was deleted under Rule A7. I don't understand the concept of needing "reliable sources". The article is about a local touch rugby club that falls the Federation of International Touch (FIT), which I reference and which has its own Wiki page ...

Hi there! I've moved your question down here to the end of your talk page.

I can't 'see' the deleted article, but I will ask if it can be restored into your user space, then we can look at it together and work out the problems.

I will respond again here very soon - within the next 30 minutes - so hang on...  Chzz  ►  11:02, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The deleted article has now been userfied to User:Andy K Mann/Columbia Touch Rugby Association MD.
This is within your own user area - so we can look at the article together, fix it up etc, before - hopefully - moving it back to the live area.
I will have a look at the article now, and suggest how the concerns can be addressed.
Please note, when you post comments on talk pages (like here), please put ~~~~ on the end. This will automatically add your login name, and the date/time. If you're following me so far, please say so underneath this. Cheers,  Chzz  ►  11:07, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(unindent) Having looked at the article;

Number 1, we need to establish notability. In this case, the article needs to meet the requirements given in WP:ORG - so, "An organization is generally considered notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources."

Secondary sources means things like newspapers, books, etc.

I had a look in Google News search here, and also in Google book search here, but I can't see anything.

The notability policies are written to avoid Wikipedia having articles about things that we can't give accurate information about - ie things that don't have reliable, verifiable sources; these policies have been written by 'Us' - the community, which includes you and me. Hopefully you'll understand why we have to have such criteria, otherwise the encyclopaedia would be flooded with articles about schoolboy bands, little clubs, people who write articles about themselves, etc etc. For the same reasons, we cannot rely on websites of the organisation itself, or websites that are 'bloggy' in nature - as anybody can create such references.

So - first thing; are you able to find some way of meeting the criteria explained in WP:ORG ? If so, we can move forward from there. Let us know below, with links to suitable sources or at least details of where reliable secondary sources to verify that the club exists etc.

If not, then sadly the article will not be suitable for inclusion.

I will be happy to assist you in any way I can; I will be watching this page for your response. Alternatively, you could get further help by either;

  • Leave me a message on my own talk page, OR
  • Put another {{helpme}} at the end of this page followed by a question (and remember to 'sign' with ~~~~, OR
  • (perhaps the best, if it works on your computer) - talk to us live.

Cheers,  Chzz  ►  11:21, 9 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
