Enough[edit]

Now obviously some tool out there is trying to annoy me, and it's working. I did not edit anything on Wikipedia, especially not a non-existent article called 'top ten sports players of all time'. yet this bot keeps telling me I have messages. Enough is enough, and I want this bot off my back. Now I know how bureaucratic and self-servient the editors of Wikipedia are, but I'd appreciate it if this bot didn't harass me when I try to look things up.

The edit you saw was from over 3 months ago, and was obviously meant for someone else using your IP. Perhaps you could consider registering an account?--Wizardman 05:17, 24 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

bot no longer reverting vandalism?[edit]

The bot hasn't been reverting any vandalism for about six weeks. Does anyone know what's going on? --Ixfd64 06:49, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

How am I vandalising this site

hey stupid[edit]

dont send me messages when I didnt edit or add anything.....retard —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.248.199.30 (talk) 21:40, 27 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

68.248.199.30, even though (technically) you're speaking to a nonliving bot, please observe WP:CIVIL and Wikipedia's No Personal Attacks policy. If you have a concern, bring it to the bot's owners, but looking at your contributions summary and talk page, I must say that your contention of not "edit[ing] or add[ing]] anything" is a bit dubious. The bot is just doing its job, and it's very good at it. +A.Ou 20:37, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Unicode[edit]

AVB recently removed all the special characters from Pikachu, leaving behind the question marks of death. This corrupted most of the page. See diffs here. Logical2uReview me! 20:30, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For future reference, this was discussed at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents#. --cesarb 23:47, 10 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yay, AVB is back![edit]

50px To show my appreciation for the return of the AntiVandalBot, I hereby present the bot with a portrait of Oscar Wilde because like him, this bot has nothing to declare but its genius. :) -→Buchanan-Hermit™/?! 01:50, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Nice to see you got it working again. Should make my job easier, as well as that of everyone else who fixes vandalism – Qxz 14:11, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Add mine to that. Thank you bot owners for the hard work getting this sweet thing to work, and continuing to shake the bugs out. It's helping. There's tons of daily, stupid vandalism I no longer have to catch myself. Antandrus (talk) 05:00, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Automated notifications to user talk pages[edit]

Hello, bot. I was pretty sure that, at some time in the past, your automated reversions would likewise add a corresponding notification to the affiliated userpages. Recently, I have been noticing numerous reversions for which you do not add those notifications. Just wanted to bring this to your attention. Sláinte! --Bossi (talk ;; contribs) 04:20, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chad Vader[edit]

"This is bullshit" is a quote from Episode 3 of Chad Vader that I tried to add. This can be seen by watching the episodes on YouTube. 140.146.230.186 06:59, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

IP[edit]

I don't think this message was inteneded for me. It seems this IP is shared. How do i make the "You have new messageas (last change)" bar go away? 147.197.251.136 12:29, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AutoWikiBrowser sandbox[edit]

AntiVandalBot keeps reverting me at Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Sandbox. [1] [2]. Is it possible to make it ignore this page? Edits in the sandbox are not likely to be considered vandalism, I guess. Jogers (talk) 17:56, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect Reversion[edit]

AVB reverted this legitimate edit by HBC Archive Indexerbot (revert here). I'm not sure what caused AVB to think this was vandalism, but wanted to let you know that it definitely wasn't. Thanks! —Krellis (Talk) 03:08, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello AVB, you just reverted this edit. I can understand how it must have thought it was vandalism, 4500 characters of the same text repeated over and over. However, it was a comment inserted at the beginning of each section, to warn users attempting to use the preview button. Thanks! --Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 03:12, 12 March 2007 (UTC) [reply]

Your bot[edit]

Has reverted an edit or edits of mine. Can I ask why? 81.157.196.251

Just checked the edit history - this IP is clearly used by other people too and your bot note referred to an edit of a year ago. I thought I'd check my talk page and saw the note and thought hey! without checking. Sorry! 81.157.196.251 16:01, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

MG (cars)[edit]

Attempted to change link from MG to MG (cars), which is where the link needs to go, but was reverted. 64.126.77.105 20:13, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lots of errors[edit]

OK I'm not sure whether this is an easy fix or what the cause is, but I have just been briefly looking over AVB's contributions and it seems that, whenever there are multiple edits of vandalism by an IP, AVB only reverts one of them. For instance, take a look at these diffs: [3] [4] [5] [6]. There are many more where that came from. I have no idea what is causing this, but it seems to be a rather big problem to me, as it is leaving lots of vandalism in articles. Will (aka Wimt) 01:34, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another example is here where I reverted to the correct edit and then AVB reverted over me. Will (aka Wimt) 01:43, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It has also just reverted User:BetacommandBot here. Is there not a whitelist for other bots? Will (aka Wimt) 02:02, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I encountered the same issue here. I posted it to the diffs page... Grandmasterka 08:24, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have just noticed another (separate) issue. It seems that AVB is reporting IPs to WP:AIV at the same point as it gives the final warning (see warning and reporting). Whilst the IPs may invariable vandalise again and be blocked, shouldn't AVB be waiting untill the IP has vandalised after its final warning before reporting? Will (aka Wimt) 12:18, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

While it is fast and impressive, I've noticed 4 examples of the above complaint just over the last 10 minutes. I'ld say it needs a little works. RadiantRay 13:47, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This issue was fixed as soon as I learned about it (and had time), and I sent the patched version of the bot to Tawker late on the 11th. The fix should be in place now, and is certainly in place on User:MartinBot, which is the more active right now. Martinp23 17:42, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cute error on 12th March[edit]

User 5fingerdismount blanked [7] page Tobias Hauser, Martinbot reverted [8] the blanking then 5fingerdismount reblanked [9] it. I reverted the blanking and prodded an hour later [10]. Antivandal bot then reverted [11] back to the Martinbot version with the edit summary BOT - rv 5fingerdismount (talk) to last version by MartinBot effectivey deprodding the article.. perhaps an edit conflict issue ? - Peripitus (Talk) 22:49, 11 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Got it in one, I'd say :). The bot normally detects edit conflicts, but I get the feeling that perhaps due to software errors in Mediawiki, or just database errors, late reverts do occaisonally take place. Thanks, Martinp23 17:44, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oops[edit]

Vandal hit twice -- [12] and [13], but AVB only reverted the second of the two edits. I checked, and I think those're the same IP. But anyway, zomg AVB is back! <3 – Luna Santin (talk) 06:55, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Issue fixed in latest code (see above) :). And, YAY!, back at last! Martinp23 17:45, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This seems to be happening a lot[edit]

"BOT - rv 24.39.100.234 (talk) to last version by 24.39.100.234" where the bot reverts from one vandaliszed revision, back to another, equally vandalized revision by the same user--VectorPotentialTalk 14:36, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Should be fixed Martinp23 17:45, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Can this bot revert edits from users? Like keep an eye out for them? Like on Tokyo Mew Mew it getting vandalized lately, but it seems to be the same basic vandalism. I can see one user, User:Renaika56 does the same thing everytime. Could this bot able to recognize this pattern of vandalism from this user? "THROUGH FIRE, JUSTICE IS SERVED!" 23:07, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It *could*, but why not just block a disruptive user?(the bot doesn't keep a db of each user's edits) -- Tawker 23:53, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

First I was wondering what bots can do, so I asked this. But now how do you block users from an article? A link to a tutorial will be ok. "THROUGH FIRE, JUSTICE IS SERVED!" 20:31, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To block users WP:AIV or eventually WP:RFA - it's a restricted task for somewhat obvious reasons (can't have someone go and block everyone from making good edits :)) -- Tawker 17:26, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Revert on Knuckles the Echidna[edit]

I have used Wikipedia for a long time, and only recently did I start editing. I had just reverted what appeared to be vandalism (that was done over two edits) by another anonymous user on the Knuckles the Echidna page, but when I checked the page history afterwards I found I was reverted by MartinBot. MartinBot reverted back to the second edit made by the other anonymous user. I am pretty sure that the edits were vandalism, so I re-reverted the edits to the version I had reverted to in the first place. Did I do the right thing then? Did I do the right thing now (this is my first time using a talk page)? 74.105.94.99 21:12, 13 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note, I now have created an account. LuigiManiac 21:37, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, everything's cool. The bots aren't perfect and sometimes miss / catch the wrong stuff, it's great that you fixed it :) -- Tawker 17:27, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

b[edit]

Just asking, but why don't reverts by AVB (and MartinBot) get flagged with a b? Philip Trueman 16:36, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In short because the bot isn't perfect, its not as clear cut as most bot work is. We didn't botflag the bots because we wanted people to see the edits in case the bot made a mistake -- Tawker 17:25, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dr. Condi Rice[edit]

There is an editor who only works on adding negative info to the Dr. Rice article. This info is against concensus and Mgunn and myself are taking turns to remove the info. However, I have noticed that when I revert the negative info this BOT puts it back in. Also, the editor who insists on the negative info against concensus reverts Mgunn and myself each and every day and this BOT does NOT revert the editor who insists on adding negative info to the Dr. Rice article against concensus. There is a problem here!--Getaway 18:12, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is the negative information sourced.... normally we don't censor WP (no comment on the bot's actions at this point as the logging db isn't responding) -- Tawker 20:35, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

12.72.205.118 Confused ?[edit]

I usually sign in before I do edits, but once or twice in the past I have forgotten to sign in.I got a message today on a contribution page, about reverting vandalism to xbox.I have never made an edit to that page! How can it show my ip address? This is not a shared computer.I am the only person with access to it.What gives? I don't want to get blocked for something I didn't do! I endorse AntiVandalBot's judgment in this case. —dgiestc 03:22, 18 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion[edit]

I've noticed a few vandals going round changing dates and other figures in articles - the signature seems to be that a date or day will be changed to an incorrect value, but the total number of characters in the article doesn't change; and there is no edit summary. Might I suggest that such edits are reverted by the 'bot? Anyone changing such things ordinarily would put in an edit summary, usually explaining why the previous figure was incorrect, so I don't think you would risk wiping out legitimate edits.

Ideally, of course, any such change would be supported by a citation, but surprisingly (<--mind the sarcasm) that doesn't always happen. Thanks. WLDtalk|edits 14:45, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bot keeps reverting my removal of copy vios at List of Just Shoot Me! episodes[edit]

User:AntiVandalBot and User:MartinBot keep reverting my removal of copy vios at List of Just Shoot Me! episodes. These bots are great, but I guess I need to be added to a whitelist or whatever, since I was planning on removing some copy vios today, and the edits are frequently removal of 1000s of Kb, which is what I guess triggers these bots. Thanks, - Peregrine Fisher 18:05, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed (Peregrine on whitelist). Martinp23 22:41, 21 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Error, or something[edit]

I was told I had vandalised the page on Sir William Borlase's Grammar School. I have NEVER even visited that article. The only change I have made in the last week or ago that I remember is about ten words on another completely unrelated article (CHERUB: The Fall). I am annoyed that this has happened and please fix this fault or whatever if possible. 86.131.16.23 20:39, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
