Thanks for fixing the specs on this article - you are right the "D" has the -11 engine! - Ahunt (talk) 20:29, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- You're welcome? I've never attemped to edit before and I'm unsure if I'm using this talk page correctlyAracfi (talk) 01:58, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- You are doing fine so far! I added a "return" and ":" to your entry above- the return gives it some space from the comment above and the ":" indents it once! Drop me a note on my talk page anytime you get stuck or need a hand! - Ahunt (talk) 10:21, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
User pages & de Havilland Canada DHC-1 Chipmunk
[edit]Thanks for your note!
I checked your math on the reference for the Chipmunk numbers and you are quite right there, it is 1230. I did the correction. If you want to see how that was done have a look here.
As far as user pages go, you have a fair degree of latitude in what you put on them, as long as there are no WP:Fair use pictures. Those are restricted to article pages due to copyrights.
The best way to create a nice user page is to copy things that you like from others! You can do that by finding a page that you like some features of, selecting "edit this page" and then copying the code and putting it on your page. Feel free to swipe anything from my user page! (not that it is very innovative!)
User boxes can be a bit addictive, too. More on them at WP:Userboxes. The index of userboxes is at Template:WP:UBS. I have made a few, which are listed on my user page (lower down).
Let me know if I can be of any help to you. Wikipedia can be a bit bewildering these days for a new editor, sometimes it helps to have someone to just ask questions of! - Ahunt (talk) 22:08, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
Aircraft naming
[edit]Thanks for your question. I would have thought so, too. If it had been up to me CH-124 Sea King would have been called Sikorsky CH-124 Sea King (note that is a blue link - I'll explain why below).
Long before I joined the Wikiproject Aircraft, the Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(aircraft) was decided. As you can see there, this basically says that aircraft articles will be called "CH-113 Labrador" instead of "Boeing-Vertol CH-113 Labrador". Basically we are stuck with that convention at this point.
Overall I don't see it as a big issue. The key thing for me is that readers can find the articles! To that end, as long as pretty much all possible articles names are set up as redirects (as is Sikorsky CH-124 Sea King and CH-124) then people will find the article. When I write a new aircraft article from scratch (like my latest: Schweizer SGS 1-24) as soon as the article is posted I set up as many redirects as I can think of. In this case I set up Schweizer 1-24, 1-24, 1-24 glider and 1-24 sailplane. Hopefully that means that just abut any inquiry will find it!! For me the redirects are more important than the actual article name.
Does that help? - Ahunt (talk) 00:17, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
A belated welcome
[edit]Hi Aracfi, thanks for the note on my talk page. I believe it may have been the result of a cautionary note that I placed to the talk page of User talk:71.227.238.21. I had reviewed the edit history of this particular IP (see: [1] and noted that although there was some "back-and-forth" edit "warring" (perhaps too harsh a word) between the anon and other editors, that the editors involved were knowledgeable but there were some definite differences of opinion. I also noted that the anonymous IP editor made some minor errors in using the quite arcane Wikipedia markup language tools (the same thing occurred in the contact note that you directed to me). Below is a template that I use to help newcomers and others (like yourself) who may have some difficulty in the use of the Wikipedia tools:

I believe that a lot of the frustration you may have felt with others editing/reverting or commenting on your work may have stemmed from misunderstandings. Please consider joining Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation. I would be happy to help you in any way, especially if you wish to learn more about contributing effectively in this WikyWacky world in which we co-habitat.
Good luck, and have fun. FWIW Bzuk (talk) 13:45, 25 February 2009 (UTC).
