User talk:Azeroth
Welcome!
Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. We as a community are glad to have you and thank you for creating a user account! Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- The Five Pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Editing, policy, conduct, and structure tutorial
- Picture tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Naming conventions
- Manual of Style
- Merging, redirecting, and renaming pages
- If you're ready for the complete list of Wikipedia documentation, there's also Wikipedia:Topical index.
Yes some of the links appear a bit boring at first, but they are VERY helpful if you ever take the time to read them.
Remember to place any articles you create into a category so we don't get orphans.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, please be sure to sign your name on Talk and vote pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, or three tildes (~~~) for just your name. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome.
P.S - I like messages. :) -Ravedave (help name my baby) 21:41, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Speedy deletions
[edit]First, other editors decide whether an article is a candidate for speedy deletion, I must decide whether they were right. In MinnesotaLindy case, with 25,000 Google-hits, and with sentences like
- "Minnesota is also home to several regular great dancing joints. "
- "While this is primarily a restaurant, they have a small floor and allow us to dance to great bands"
, I was convinced that it is not notable enough to have an article on Wikipedia. In the case of SwingMonkey, with 938 Google-hits, it is not notable enough. Please read Wikipedia:Notability.
The system works fine, if you don't agree with me, you can request the undeletion of the articles here. Or if you want to, I can restore the whole page for you to be able to work on it. Thank you for your appreciation. NCurse work 20:22, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- PS: I don't have to be an expert of Lindy Hop, I must know our policies. That's why I've made these deletions. NCurse work 20:25, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- The intention I had for the stub was to move it from the website to the minnesota dance scene in general -- which you won't find in google. Unfortunatly, you probably won't find books on it either, just other forums like minnesotalindy with discussions about minnesota just as we have them about other scenes. But there's still nothing to satisfy the verifiability requirement aside from other websites. My point about knowledge of the content is that Minnesota hosts 2 of the most influential lindy hop events in the nation, and one of those, a competition, literally changed the face of competitions world-wide in 2 years. This is where I think Wikipedia would benefit the most, having this history available. The restrictions, however, will never let me publish that.
Look, I'm not against you, I was appointed to defend the rules of the wiki, but we don't want to lose or discourage good editors. I can restore the MinnesotaLindy article and help to make it properly written. If it's a good solution for you. NCurse work 20:41, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- yea, I'd not mind it being merged with my second effort, Minnesota Lindy, but someone might have already. I'm sorry to be fiesty, but I would like to put more into it before it gets deleted.
- Ok, I restored it: MinnesotaLindy and removed one section. Please work on it to meet WP:WEB. NCurse work 20:56, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you, I'll set to work on it as quickly as I can. ~ Shawn 21:10, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
External links
[edit]Hi!
- RNC 2008 Welcoming Committee link should be removed due to "Links to social networking sites (such as MySpace), or discussion forums." (Links normally to be avoided)
- http://protest2008rnc.org/ should be removed as it doesn't consist of any kind of information.
- http://protestrnc2008.org/ is the same case as above.
So remove them, if anyone complains again, link him here, or ask him to contact me. Cheers, NCurse work 17:48, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
- Do they not fall under NPOV then?
- In case of these links, it is not the NPOV problem that is the most important one. NCurse work 07:29, 18 November 2006 (UTC)
Meetup in Minneapolis
[edit]AfD nomination of Minnesota Lindy
[edit]An article that you have been involved in editing, Minnesota Lindy, has been listed for deletion. If you are interested in the deletion discussion, please participate by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Minnesota Lindy. Thank you. —Christian Campbell 09:24, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
- I'm sorry for the late reply. I was curious to see how many search results there were regarding the two entries you mentioned. Take a look. NCurse work 07:57, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
- That's primarily because Yehoodi is about 10x bigger than MNLindy. They are conceptually similar but Yehoodi is the larger forum. MNLindy does more for its community than Yehoodi, such as real-world events, so... it's all a toss up. ~ Shawn (talk) 17:22, 18 January 2010 (UTC)
Rail stuff
[edit]I don't know how active you are anymore but the rail and light rail articles could use your help, especially Southwest Corridor (Minnesota) and Northstar Corridor. .:DavuMaya:. 16:33, 27 June 2008 (UTC)
