Please help me with... Ive had a desire to learn how to edit and add information for a long time, but awkwardly this is the topic thats finally pushing me into action. The Youtube channel "triplejump" has long been making videos on obscure and underwhelming games. They have a series called worst games ever which they state "they arent the worst games, but they are worse than most." In many cases the games either do not have a wiki page or EXTREMELY SPARSE pages. In a recent episode they suggested that fans add to wiki pages of games they have covered, which i actively had interest in doing since it seemed like a good idea and a simple way for me to learn the editing as well as correct any misinformation found. Unfortunately in a more recent episode on inspector gadget (at 33min 24sec) they remark that they "got in trouble" and felt like they had been yelled at by the adults for making that suggestion. The link is the video and should start at the time mentioned. youtube/i2Cb7TT-6tQ?t=2005
ALL OF THE ABOVE IS SIMPLY SET UP TO ASK THESE QUESTIONS:
As a note under a games reception or its "lasting" impact or even just a throw away line ( "... it has also featured on the youtube series worst games ever in 2020") I see no reason why it can not be or should not be fair to mention it. I AM NOT ASKING TO GIVE PUBLICITY TO THE YOUTUBE CHANNEL, IF THAT IS THE ISSUE HOW DO I WORK AROUND IT? Some of these games id never know about if not for the series but id like to correct errors on the pages as well as give recognition to how i ended up in that position (knowing that the game and the wiki had conflicting information) Games such as Miami Vice, Knight Rider and its sequel all have been cited as having inaccurate info on the wiki, which i was hoping to correct, but before doing so i wanted to make sure if i mentioned the error or the youtube channel at all im not going against guidelines
as im not affiliated with the channel triplejump, and not affiliated with wikipedia, but i am a fan of both i simply want to share the information i can in a neutral fashion. That also means i had hoped to make the triplejump youtube channel into a wiki page as it doesnt seem to exist, BUT NOW IM NOT SURE IF DOING SO IS SOMEHOW A VIOLATION, and would please like just any guidance or clarifications
after reading Five Pillars IGNORE ALL RULES, the only thing i feel MAY fit that guideline is my complete confusion thats lead me to writinig this right here. Though i still apologize since im sure im not making any sense. BDOUGH919 (talk) 23:22, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
- Ideally, you'd have reliable sources to back up any correction you have. If the only source you have is a YouTube channel that hasn't gone through editorial oversight, maybe it's best you one of two things:
- If the information is cited by a reliable source, don't change it at all.
- If the information isn't reliably cited, then remove it without adding anything back in.
- Unfortunately for you, I doubt triplejump qualifies for a Wikipedia article. If you insist on writing one anyway, try writing a draft, but I doubt it'll be accepted.
- "Ignore all rules" reminds us that the spirit of the rules should be followed, not the letter. I know the name of that pillar is confusing. I dream of horses (Contribs) Please notify me if replying off my talk page. Thank you. 01:01, 22 March 2021 (UTC)
