List of Indian states and union territories by GDP per capita

[edit]

This message is in relation to your recent edits in the article List of Indian states and union territories by GDP per capita. You replaced latest available official figures with older figures in the above mentioned list article for no justifiable reason. The figures used for each and every state & UT in the list article that you replaced with older figures were all latest available (mostly for FY 2018-19 or 2019-20) per capita NSDP figures (all at current prices; Base year 2011-12) and all of them were properly referenced with reliable government sources which you probably didn't even care to go through. A Gross State Domestic Product common official source published by GOI's Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI) that was updated just on 28th of Feb this year was used with figures of most of the states while primary and secondary sources quoting the official economic surveys of the respective state governments were used for a few states for which MOSPI has not published the latest figures. The MOSPI source mentions states-wise official figures for total GSDP as well as per capita NSDP at both current and constant prices (Base year 2011-12) that have been compiled by respective state governments to the central government. There is absolutely no question on reliability of a source published by a central government ministry like MOSPI or the state specific official economic survey sources published by the respective state governments of the reliable secondary sources quoting any of the above two sources. There is no point in using a government source mentioning older per capita NSDP figures when we have another government source mentioning newer per capita NSDP figures. You did exactly that. The RBI source or the Indian budget source you added don't hold any kind of precedence over MOSPI source since all are central government sources. Instead the latter can be said to have a precedence over the former since it has been more recently updated and mentions more latest figures.

All your allegations regarding the verifiability or non-uniformity of per capita income figures in the concerned article (which you mentioned in your edit summaries) are therefore totally unfounded. Regarding, per capita PPP values, they can be kept because even though the cost of living may vary from state to state in India, the prices of essential goods, commodities and services is more or less the same. Only the bigger metropolitan cities located in a few states tend to be more expensive than their smaller counterparts (spread across the country) and in general urban areas than the rural ones. However, mentioning the comparable countries corresponding to those values, I know is not appropriate and must be removed because the country-wise figures are for PPP GDP per capita and the state-wise figures are for PPP NSDP per capita. Lastly, it doesn't matter if data of different states for different years (mostly successive fiscals in the concerned list article) are in same column as the difference is of just one year. @Vibhss We had agreed on most points on your talk page. I have two more issues, which would follow if we update the table as we agreed. First one, NSDP PPP Per Capita column, current data in it is using values from 2019-20 & 2017-18. There should be some standardisation. And, We do not have data for Andaman, So it is better to leave it vacant.

Thank you MRRaja001, I will participate as soon as possible. I think we can find a common ground and develop all Hindu articles in a syncretic way. Basavaraj Patel (talk) 03:40, 11 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
