CompleteFTP Server
[edit]Hi. I read your comments on the CompleteFTP Server talk page. I can have some sympathy but I don't think any of the arguments are valid within the context of Wikipedia policy. The existence of some poorly referenced articles does not justify the existence of others. Wikipedia is not a directory, and the list articles are not meant to include all products, although this is a very common misunderstanding. As you have objected to the deletion I have sent the deletion to be discussed here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/CompleteFTP Server. This will allow a few days for discussion. Please feel free to participate. --DanielRigal (talk) 12:11, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Hi again. I am afraid I had to remove CompleteFTP server from the lists. The notability rules apply to list entries too. This generally means that they only list items with their own articles or sections elsewhere in Wikipedia. Rather than get into an edit war over this, I would like to help you find a way to get yourself listed which doesn't cause any problems. Here is what I suggest:
- I will add Open Directory Project links to the bottom of all the list articles that Complete FTP used to be listed on. This will provide people looking at the lists with an easy way to get much more complete lists of related software. They probably should have been there in the first place.
- You can add CompleteFTP to the ODP listings in whatever categories you feel are appropriate. They have no notability criteria or other policy hoops to jump through. All you need to do is register.
This will give you all the advantages of being listed in the ODP and will also mean that your web site is only one extra click away from the Wikipedia list articles than it was before. --DanielRigal (talk) 12:59, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
You should read Wikipedia criteria here a little more carefully. Wikipedia quite clearly states that "Each entry on a list should have its own non-redirect article in English Wikipedia, but this is not required if the entry is verifiably a member of the listed group, and it is reasonable to expect an article could be forthcoming in the future. ". CompleteFTP is verifiably a member of each listed group, and it is not unreasonable to expect that in the not so distant future it will satisfy the criteria for an article. I think you are being extremely unreasonable. Fair enough, delete the article, but it is quite reasonable for it to included in the lists. Bblackshaw (talk) 13:34, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
- I am afraid that you have completely misunderstood what that part of the policy means. It means that red links or unlinked entries are allowed when there is a notable subject which will be getting an article as soon as anybody bothers to write it. CompleteFTP was deleted at AfD precisely because it is not currently notable. It could become notable in the future but there is no reason to assume this will happen. There is nothing in the policy justifying a long term red link or unlinked entry on a list article for a currently non-notable subject, just in case it becomes notable later. Please do not readd the entries unless there is a step change in the notability of CompleteFTP. Please focus on getting in to the Open Directory Project lists instead. It is a much more productive way for you to increase CompleteFTP's profile. --DanielRigal (talk) 13:41, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
The article Complete FTP Server has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- Non-notable software
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. The Blade of the Northern Lights (話して下さい) 01:03, 22 February 2011 (UTC)
