Hop's Big World for Tiny Bunnies

[edit]

Hop's Big World for Tiny Bunnies was a TV show that aired between 1979 - 1980 on the British/UK Television channel KPC, or better known as "Kids Pick Cartoons."

The short-lived children's TV show was created by TVC Productions in 1978, and was first aired on January 23, 1979. The show reportedly didn't live its predecessor wanted, who stated in an interview "It just wasn't popular enough.

Character

[edit]

Hops Hops is portrayed as a very lively bunny, who is down to earth and very close connection with his den, and his 2 friends Percy Parrot and Doug Dog, who are seen throughout the show with Hops. Although his name is just simply portrayed as Hops on the show, he is also known as Hops the Hare in the episode titled "Hops goes for a Swim". Hops is also seen to be constantly afraid of Fox, who lives on the ranch by Hop's home. Fox is seen multiple times trying to lure Hops out of his den, only to lose interest on occasion. Hop's voice acted by an unknown British actor for the first couple episodes, only to be dubbed over by Google Text-to-Speech in future episodes due to the voice actor being, "too controversial".

Percy Parrot Percy Parrot is Hop's friend in the series, who enjoys to eat sweet fruits he might find by his bird house. In one episode,"Percy and the Apple", this is portrayed by him trying to take down fruits from a tree, with the help of Doug dog. Percy Parrot is seen living in the tree '3 trees away' from Hop's burrow, and right next to Doug the Dog's Kennel at the farm. Percy Parrot's bird house was built by the human at the ranch.

Doug Dog Doug Dog is a lazy beagle who's portrayed as lazy and unmistakably boring in the series. Doug Dog is owned by the human, who both live on the ranch. Doug Dog is mostly seen accompanied by Percy Parrot, due to close proximity on where they live, since both live on the ranch. Doug Dog is shown in at least 5 episodes, but is not included in the VHS exclusive "Hops Big World for Tiny Bunnies - Into the garden" VHS tape.

The Human (Jack) The human is the owner of the ranch, which is the place Percy Parrot and Hops occasionally explore, and take crops from. The human is always accompanied with intense music which plays as he tramps in with his black boots. The human is simply referred to as 'the human' by Hops ad Doug Dog in the series, due to both not knowing his real name, but Percy Parrot calls the human "Jack". The human sets traps around the ranch and yard, in hopes of catching Hops, which include a metal trap (Shown in "Hops and the giant hill") and when he buys a hunting fox, (In "Hops plays hide and seek" and "Hops and the Fox"

Fox Fox is, in recent episodes, the antagonist. He tries to Lure Hops to the farm on 2 separate occasions. His character is voiced by the same unknown actor as Hops was in earlier episodes, due to budget cuts in the network.

Controversy

[edit]

At the end of KPC's lifespan as a network, controversy struck with the animators and head executives of KPC Studios, and budget cuts were made. This lead to the canceling of Hop's Big World for Tiny Bunnies, in favor of another show, titled Brum, which became a last ditch effort to prolong the lifespan of KPC. The show was also heavily criticized for "copying off of other franchises including Disney with amphomorphic animals, and for specifically stealing the beagle's personality with Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh.
