Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Thank you. JCutter (talk) 00:09, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Username

[edit]

You are not being unfriendly and my username can easily be changed. I use CAMVAP simply because it is easy for me. After reading the policy, I'd be quite willing to change it. Would 'Canarb' be more suitable.

Also, I cannot figure out how to change the title to "Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan". Can you give me advice?

Thanks for understanding. My concern about both CAMVAP and Canarb is that both appear to be abbreviations for the organization you are writing about. Per wp:username policy your account should not be a promotional name, and should not be a group name (either be used by a group, or be used by an individual representing a group). Would it be possible to come up with a username that is not related to the organization you are affiliated with? On that topic - you may also want to review WP:COI before writing about a topic where you might have a conflict. Thanks. JCutter (talk) 00:55, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Issues

[edit]

When replying on a talk page, you should click the "Edit" link on the right of the title (which is "Issues" for this section). Then add your text at the bottom. It's conventional to indent each reply by prefxing each line with a colon (:). At the end of the last line (generally not on a new line), put a space then for your signature (do not type your name). Click "Show preview" before saving, to see how it looks.

I notice you have added a section to Lemon law. It is likely that someone will greatly trim the new work (I might do it myself later) because, as an encylopedia, Wikipedia does not generally give details of how procedures work in a particular place. Just a link to the CAMVAP site is really all that is needed. Wikipedia certainly does not list phone numbers. By the way, your user name indicates a potential conflict of interest. Thanks. Starting up on Wiki is a learning experience. I will delete the phone number on the Lemon Law in a few minutes. Also I will change my username later this evening or no later than in the morning. I have read the COI guidelines and think that I am Ok, but I do need to be careful in my posts. Thanks. I notice from your edit summary when you removed the phone number that you might think an administrator suggested the removal. Just in case you think that's me, I would like to to clarify that I am a humble user, exactly the same as yourself, except that I have been here longer. It's very common for plain users like me to post comments on talk pages. I understand that it might appear as if someone is speaking from authority, but often they are not. What counts is policy -- I'm not aware of a specific policy saying "no phone numbers", but WP:NOT (search for "phone") has some good guidance. Johnuniq (talk) 04:27, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the note. I thought removing the number was a good recommendation as I work to bring the article into focus as an encyclopedic reference. I'm trying to run, but I have to walk first! CAMVAP (talk) 15:18, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
