Miami University Glee Club[edit]

After all the work you have done on Miami University Glee Club, I hate to tell you that the article is not likely to be allowed to remain on Wikipedia. In general, university clubs are not independently notable, and should generally be covered in a brief sentence or two at the university's main article (which this club already is). Unless you can provide an indication of significant coverage in reliable, independent sources (i.e. sources not associated with Miami University or the glee club itself), the article is likely to face deletion. Thank you WikiDan61 for your review and suggestions for improvement to the Miami University Glee Club page. I understand the concerns, and I am working on improving the page based on those suggestions. It may take a little time (couple weeks) given my personal and work schedule. Not sure how long the sweeping process works on Wikipedia, but I would very much appreciate the chance to continue to improve the page. As a glee club that has impressed choral conductors and held its own at recent national conferences, sharing the stage with the Harvard, Morehouse, University of Michigan, and Rutgers glee clubs (all of which, have their own Wikipedia pages) in just the past three years, I and many others, strongly believe the Miami University Glee Club is very much of note. Thank you again for the suggestions and I look forward to improving the page! CDM347 (talk) 23:29, 12 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You know WikiDan, I actually had the same concerns about the notability of this article too which is why I went to this article after seeing it on the Miami University page. But I found a surprising number of similar articles at Category:Glee clubs that may also not be that notable either (or might be, I haven't looked through all of them). Either way, CDM347, I'll see what I can do to help improve the page, but ultimately if there aren't enough sources we may need to just make it a small blurb in the "student organizations" section of Miami University. But no worries, take your time-- I'll see if I can dig anything up after work tomorrow for you. Nomader (talk) 14:29, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

In response to your feedback[edit]

Yes, every article have to have sources. Just try searching on the internet and on wikipedia too for extra information. Let me know if you need any help.

Major edit[edit]

I have just completed a major edit of Miami University Glee Club. Specifically, I have removed peacock terms that serve more to praise the group than to simply report about it. Remember to keep a neutral point of view in your Wikipedia writing. I have also removed sections of the article that, while they may well be of interest to MUGC members, are not of general interest. This includes the section on Alexander Award -- very touching story, but not really encyclopedic. Remember, this is an encyclopedia, not your group's personal webpage. I have also removed references to your "notable alumni" section. These references verified the identities of the people involved, but not that they were ever members of the MUGC. A reference must verify the fact that it references.

I would point out that your sources are still sketchy. Your article relies entirely on sources tied to the MUGC itself or to Miami University at large, or to mere program listings indicating that the MUGC has performed somewhere or other. Evidence of significant coverage in independent sources is require to establish notability. That would be a feature piece in a newpaper or magazine not related to MU that has profiled the MUGC, or a review in an independent publication of one of MUGC's performances. The coverage in the local papers regarding MUGC's community work is a start, but still not quite enough. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 16:02, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm really coming up pretty dry when it comes to looking for sources right now. I found a couple of articles about a van crash with the glee club: [1] [2], one story advertising the Cheezies's soon to be appearance at Avon Lake in 2011 [3], and a brief mention about the Cheezies being a part of a "glee revival" in Ohio [4]. But that's all I could find after half an hour of searching. I'll keep looking, but I'm really not sure about how much there is here. Nomader (talk) 06:09, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Even a book search didn't really turn up anything. All I got was this paltry mention in Cincinnati Magazine: [5]. Nomader (talk) 06:14, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Notable alumni[edit]

The section on "Notable alumni" should be restricted to people who currently have a Wikipedia article, or (in rare cases) people who do not yet have a Wikipedia article, but based on the criteria at WP:BIO, should have one. Neither Bobby Goldwater nor Jeffrey Horvath meet that criterion, and should not be included in the list. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 17:39, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiDan, thank you again for all your kind and patient the help! CDM347 (talk) 17:49, 13 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
