Your username

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I noticed that your username, "Bigfoot Games", may not comply with our username policy. Please note that you may not use a username that represents the name of a company, group, organization, product, service, or website. Examples of usernames that are not allowed include "XYZ Company", "MyWidgetsUSA.com", and "Foobar Museum of Art". However, you are permitted to use a username that contains such a name if it identifies you individually, such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company", "Mark at WidgetsUSA", or "FoobarFan87".

Please also note that Wikipedia does not allow accounts to be shared by multiple people and that you may not advocate for or promote any company, group, organization, product, service, or website, regardless of your username. Please also read our paid editing policy and our conflict of interest guideline. If you are a single individual and are willing to contribute to Wikipedia in an unbiased manner, please request a change of username by completing the form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, choosing a username that complies with our username policy. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. MB 19:48, 23 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy.

You may request a change of name and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions other than promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must:

  • Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement.
  • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked.
  • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 09:51, 24 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Per the comment from user MB, I have changed my username to identify me as an individual 'such as "Sara Smith at XYZ Company"'. No compensation has been made for the posts created under this account, nor will any compensation be made for any future edits. I understand the reason that this edit was flagged and the account blocked was due to 1) a username that represented an entity and not an individual and 2) the page was flagged as a promotional page post. I intend to contribute to the gaming wiki pages, specifically, those relating to Washington and Seattle.

Decline reason:

Procedural decline as unresponsive. You are welcome to make a new request when you are able to engage with us. 331dot (talk) 11:23, 3 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

You aren't paid as the co-founder? 331dot (talk) 17:52, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Not at this time, we are not paid a salary of any kind. We do have vested equity if that counts. I was under the impression that though it is discouraged, you could write about an entity that you are a part of as long as you 1) disclose any ties to said entity, 2) maintain a neutral tone, and 3) provide beneficial content to the Wiki community. We attempted to do all three, we mirror the neutral tone of other board game Wiki pages and believe that this wiki page could be useful for those interested in learning more about the growing indie board game / digital gaming community in the US (and specifically our home city of Seattle). Leaving aside the paid editing for the moment- That's not exactly correct with regards to conflict of interest related editing. To be successful in writing a draft about your own company, you need to set aside everything you know about it and all materials put out by your company and its personnel(press releases, interviews, the website, or other primary sources) and only write based on the content of independent reliable sources with significant coverage that have chosen on their own to write about Bigfoot Games, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable company. Wikipedia is not interested in what a company wants to say about itself, only in what others completely unconnected with the company have chosen to say about it. It is usually very difficult for people associated with a company to summarize what others say about it without any primary sources creeping in. I've seen it done, but it is rare.
Also understand that if you had a draft accepted by a reviewer, you could no longer edit it directly, and would be limited to formal edit requests on the article talk page. That others in your industry may merit articles does not automatically mean that your company does too; it could be that those other articles are also inappropriate. See other stuff exists.
Are there any topics unrelated to your field that you are interested in editing about? 331dot (talk) 19:59, 27 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
