ClueBot III archiving
{{atop}} I'm fairly convinced I've messed something up when I was trying to shorten the amount of archives I had, but I'm not sure what to do to get archiving back up. I've put the template on my talk page, made sure the index is correct (and actually links to the right talk page), and I can't find what it is. EggRoll97 (talk) 00:30, 10 September 2023 (UTC)
- @EggRoll97: it seems to be working. —usernamekiran (talk) 20:15, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
- Looks good, seems like it just took a couple days to kick in. Thanks! EggRoll97 (talk) 00:37, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
Subtlety
I'm very unhappy with your bot posting "refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did" and (emphasis mine) "Your edits continue to appear to constitute vandalism". Edits I have made were neither unconstructive nor vandalism. You can't hide behind the sentence the bot includes that it does occasionally make mistakes. It plastered an insult on my Talk page, for everyone to see; even if I remove it, in remains in the page history. You have insulted me through you bot by telling me "refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did". I did not. F**k off, and change the bot's text to be more subtle. --2001:1C06:19CA:D600:12A1:8A87:91E6:6908 (talk) 13:03, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
- You're insulted by that? Goodness. —k6ka 🍁 (Talk · Contributions) 19:51, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
- surprisingly, I'm not surprised. I once read somewhere (I loosely remember the words): "new generations are becoming too lazy, sensitive, taking others, and technology for granted. They are forgetting about hardwork/hardship, living with society [and something something]. Only a war effecting the globe will improve them". The author had also explained the word "snowflake". —usernamekiran (talk) 03:09, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
- I think the edit is good-faith, and have reported it through interface. Unfortunately, ClueBot NG isn't perfect, but I hope it will get better.
- Also, the "Welcome to this talk page" message cannot be removed, as it is necessary for new users. ~~2NumForIce (speak|edits) 00:38, 13 September 2023 (UTC)
An archive's index is broken
Sorry if this is the wrong place. The index of the archives here is broken for some reason. If this is the wrong place, where can I seek a Wikipedian's assistance in fixing it? Thanks! — zmm ~talk~ 18:37, 17 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Zm14: This sort of weird archiving behaviour is a common side effect of using {{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveThis}} with the wrong
|archiveprefix=
(which can happen after an uncorrected move). I've tried asking about getting this fixed in some form here myself, but my thread got archived with no reply. - The bot will take a while before first updating the index, so it'll be empty until the next time it comes by, but should update correctly. I've also gone ahead and tried to sort out Talk:Olbers's paradox/Archives/ 2 as well Aidan9382 (talk) 18:54, 17 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi and thanks for the reply! Your (and my) link to Archive 2 is now red and it has a deletion notice: "19:44, 17 September 2023 - Extraordinary Writ - deleted page - (G6: Housekeeping and routine (non-controversial) cleanup".
- If I understand correctly, eventually the bot will correct the index including the now-deleted page? Thanks again. — zmm ~talk~ 21:04, 17 September 2023 (UTC)
- The now-deleted page was made in error by the bot (for some reason, when
|archiveprefix=
isn't set to a subpage correctly, it breaks the default formatting mode. I fixed that here), which was why it was deleted, and therefore won't be indexed (since it doesn't exist). The other 2 pages (Talk:Olbers's paradox/Archive 1, Talk:Olbers's paradox/Archive 2) should be indexed soon by the bot. Aidan9382 (talk) 21:23, 17 September 2023 (UTC)- Awesome! Thanks a lot again! — zmm ~talk~ 06:33, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

ClueBot III archiving backwards?
See this diff, where the bot sent the threads to the archive in reverse chronological order. I'm really not sure why it did that, or if I accidentally messed with the settings on my talk page to cause that. In any case, I'd appreciate any help with this! —TechnoSquirrel69 (sigh) 16:24, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
