WEJAY S. BUNDARA, SR. August 6, 1916–June 23, 2002. Lt. Col. Wejay S. Bundara, Sr., (U.S. Army, Ret.), was born in Baltimore, MD on August 6, 1916, where he graduated from Douglas High School. He subsequently attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. During college, he worked at the Industrial Bank, a Black-owned business, and was one of the earliest members of Kappa Alpha Psi, a Negro fraternity. In 1939, he graduated with a Bachelor's of Science in Zoology and an Army ROTC commission as a Second Lieutenant. In 1940, he moved to Fort Devins near Boston, Massachusetts and was later assigned overseas as WWII progressed.

From 1942–1945 he served with distinction in the 366th Infantry Regiment and the now famous Negro 92nd. He fought as a combat officer in North Africa and the Battle of Anzio Italy. He was then deployed to the Philippines where he ended the war as an infantryman and a combat engineer. During this period, he earned many decorations including the Bronze Star with a V device and two Purple Hearts. After WWII, he was assigned to Prairie View College, TX as an ROTC instructor and then assigned to Germany; Japan; Fort Dix, NJ; Korea and Ft. Knox, KY, where he retired as a tank training regiment commander. In 1960, he retired. During retirement, he remained very active as a member of Kappa Alpha Psi and Sigma Pi Phi Boule fraternities and the Van Courtland Social Club in San Antonio, Texas. He was very generous with his time and money as a member and leader of the Board of Directors for the Bexar County Hospital, International Links Club and several social clubs in San Antonio, Texas. He is also mentioned in the book entitled "Buffalo Soldiers."
