"Box office success"[edit]

Please don't add your own personal analysis to Wikipedia articles. This is known as original research and is forbidden by our policies. One of the reason why this is forbidden is because people add things that they think are obvious, but they get it wrong. For example, a film can gross more than its budget but still be a bomb. The reason is that cinemas do not show films as an act of charity and expect to collect a portion of the ticket price. There are also advertising costs, and major stars can collect a portion of the gross itself, rather the profits (see Hollywood accounting). This means that a film often must gross much more than its budget to have a chance for the studio to make money, and it is why we need reliable sources to analyze this for us rather than comparing one random number to another.
