Martin Luther High School in Namibia[edit]

This school was established in Karibib in the year 1962 and moved in 1968 to Otjite situated near Okombahe. The school is known to be a Evangelical Lutheran Church school, named after Martin Luther King. From the start the school was a private confessional school opposed to the Bantu education system, introduced by the South African administration. The school supports the teaching of German as a foreign language, now teaching for 50 years. It is accompanied by the Goethe-institut in Windhoek since 2009.This year (2012) Martin Luther High School will be celebrating its 50th anniversary in November. The school was officially built to accompany 160 students but currently has 260 learners.[1]

The school has a choir which took part in a Non-Afrikaans speaking competition in the year 2009 and won gold.Besides this the school is known for its soccer team, netball, volleyball and athletics in which many learners have been offered a chance to compete with other schools. Every year learners are chosen to take part in the German spelling competition in Swakopmund or Windhoek.

The Alumni or ex-learners from the school include popular people like Alpheus Naruseb who is the Minister of Lands and Resettlement, DrZephania Kameeta who is a religious and political leader, Lilani "Adora" Kisting who is a musician. [2]
