Rhymes with apple

[edit]

Just curious about your comment that you pronounce the /ae/ in Hyundai like the a in "apple." If you don't mind my asking, is your first language English, or Korean, or have you been a native speaker of both since a young age? Also, very nice work on the Hyundai-related articles. --Reuben 02:54, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In that case I would trust your judgement more than mine. The Wikipedia page Korean language uses IPA [e] for ㅔ and [ɛ] for ㅐ, but I did a quick google search and found that some other places use [æ] for ㅐ instead. Perhaps it's a matter of dialect. I have seen native Korean speakers have trouble distinguishing between the two vowels (understanding which one is meant in someone's name, or remembering which one to use in spelling a word). Could be just Gyeongsang dialect though. One note: leave messages on users' talk pages, rather than the main user page. --Reuben 03:42, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting... I'm not a linguist either (and I'm nowhere close to being a native speaker of Korean!), it's just an interest of mine. The IPA characters are [æ] like apple, [ɛ] is like bed in American English, and [e] might or might not exist in American English... you can find them all at IPA vowel chart. It sounds like the main change is between generations, mentioned here and here. Most of my exposure to Korean was with kids, so they would be after the merger. Anyway, each answer is correct given the right group of Korean speakers! --Reuben 04:23, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

please partially undo your edit in the article Goguryo. the bottom portion of Goguryo's fall has been distorted, thanks to you. a great amount of significant information has disappeared. please restore it.Odst 23:40, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure which part you mean, but if there are specific relevant facts I accidentally deleted, please feel free to put them back in. I tried to make the writing better by rearranging sentences for clarity, as well as reverting the Chinese stuff. CronusXT 23:48, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Request for mediation

[edit]

A request for mediation has been filed with the Mediation Committee that lists you as a party. The Mediation Committee requires that all parties listed in a mediation must be notified of the mediation. Please review the request at Wikipedia:Requests for mediation/Goguryeo, and indicate whether you agree or refuse to mediate. If you are unfamiliar with mediation, please refer to Wikipedia:Mediation. There are only seven days for everyone to agree, so please check as soon as possible. --Nlu (talk) 06:11, 12 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppetry

[edit]

Sockpuppetry charges again you (see Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/Etimesoy). Etimesoy (talk · contribs) and OpieNn (talk · contribs), two of your accounts, have been blocked indefinitely as abusive sockpuppets. This account is not blocked, but you are on very thin ice. If another sockpuppetry allegation against you is proven, you can be blocked entirely. --Nlu (talk) 01:53, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On second thought, since you haven't edited for five days from this account, I am guessing this is yet another throw-away account. I am therefore blocking this account indefinitely. If and when you wish to edit productively without using sockpuppets, let me know and I'll unblock, but stop your sockpuppetry. --Nlu (talk) 14:58, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Proceeding with the Goguryeo mediation

[edit]

Hello! : )

This is Daniel Bryant and Armed Blowfish from the Mediation Committee, and as you may be aware, we are mediating the Goguryeo Mediation Committee case.

We are sending you this message as you are one of the involved parties in this dispute. Recently, a private wiki was set up for private mediation by the Mediation Committee. As noted by the Mediation Committee policy on confidentiality, mediation is confidential, and therefore the Committee has decided in this case to hold all mediation discussions in this case on the private wiki. Therefore, we need you to get an account so the case can proceed.

To request an account on the private Mediation Wiki, please click this link to email Armed Blowfish. Please include "Goguryeo" somewhere in the subject, e.g. "Private wiki account request for Goguryeo mediation", to note that this email has highest priority. If you do not have email enabled on your account and are unable to use the mail feature, please let us know on Armed Blowfish's talk page.

Thank you so much,
