Welcome!

[edit]

Hello, Curti Mantis, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions, especially your edits to Mantis. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few links to pages you might find helpful:

You may also want to complete the Wikipedia Adventure, an interactive tour that will help you learn the basics of editing Wikipedia. You can visit the Teahouse to ask questions or seek help.

I notice that you've added a variety of claims to mantis articles, but without saying where you got the information. This is very important on Wikipedia. Please take a look at WP:REFB for how to do this, and WP:V for why it's necessary. Many thanks.

Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. Again, welcome! Hi you have made additions and deletions but I see no sign of any cited sources. It is fundamental to Wikipedia that every fact is cited to a reliable source like a textbook or a scientific research paper so other editors can verify your claims. Please make sure to cite every addition from now on. Thanks. Chiswick Chap (talk) 10:39, 26 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I have a question. Why do you revert my edits on wikipedia?? Curti Mantis (talk) 03:31, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

References

[edit]

I have references: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4238084/. Most of my knowledge comes from my own experience breeding mantis, or talking with experts on facebook or whatsapp. I normally add new locations (from photos of wild specimens in new locations, in flickr or facebook for example) or delete irrelevant information. Also, sometimes I found false information, information that even makes you laugh. I just want to contribute to knowledge. Ah, one more thing, the spanish wikipedia is much better (in mantis) than the wikipedia in English, I take information from the wiki in Spanish and translate it into English, then I simply paste it into the wikipedia in English :) Curti Mantis (talk) 04:22, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I guess this apparently new discussion is actually a continuation and reply to the thread above? If so, let me say that first I am glad we are having this discussion. Secondly, I respect the fact that you have detailed knowledge of mantises, but unfortunately, Wikipedia does not permit experts to rely on their own unpublished and unverifiable knowledge. Please read the policy on verifiability for why that is, and how Wikipedia works. If you are correct about a fact, it is more than likely that someone will have published it in a book or scientific paper, and we will be able to rely on those published facts, provided you add a suitable citation. Otherwise, anybody (including me) is fully entitled to revert your changes to articles. Hope this helps explain what is happening, and more importantly, why. All the best, Chiswick Chap (talk) 20:55, 28 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]
