Although some prefer welcoming newcomers with cookies, I find fruit to be a healthier alternative.

Hello, DCMeganHallar, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like this place and decide to stay.

Why can't I edit some particular pages?
Some pages that have been vandalized repeatedly are semi-protected, meaning that editing by new or unregistered users is prohibited through technical measures. If you have an account that is four days old and has made at least 10 edits, then you can bypass semi-protection and edit any semi-protected page. Some pages, such as highly visible templates, are fully-protected, meaning that only administrators can edit them.
Where can I experiment with editing Wikipedia?
How do I create an article?
See how to create your first article, then use the Article Wizard to create one, and add references to the article as explained below.
How do I create citations?
  1. Do a search on Google or your preferred search engine for the subject of the Wikipedia article that you want to create a citation for.
  2. Find a website that supports the claim you are trying to find a citation for.
  3. In a new tab/window, go to the citation generator, click on the 'An arbitrary website' bubble, and fill out as many fields as you can about the website you just found.
  4. Click the 'Get reference wiki text' button.
  5. Highlight, and then copy (Ctrl+C or Apple+C), the resulting text (it will be something like <ref> {{cite web | .... }}</ref>, copy the whole thing).
  6. In the Wikipedia article, after the claim you found a citation for, paste (Ctrl+V or Apple+V) the text you copied.
  7. If the article does not have a References or Notes section (or the like), add this to the bottom of the page, but above the External Links section and the categories:
==References==
{{Reflist}}
What is a WikiProject, and how do I join one?
A WikiProject is a group of editors that are interested in improving the coverage of certain topics on Wikipedia. (See this page for a complete list of WikiProjects.) If you would like to help, add your username to the list that is on the bottom of the WikiProject page.

[edit]

Hello DCMeganHallar. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you are affiliated with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about following reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Be cautious about deletion discussions. Everyone is welcome to provide information about independent sources in deletion discussions, but avoid advocating for deletion of articles about your competitors.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. NtheP (talk) 18:29, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Double Cola

[edit]

Please do not convert the article into an advert. Articles on Wikipedia must be neutral, your edits have changed it into an advert for the company and it's products. As the above warning says if you are connected with the firm and cannot write about it in a neutral fashion then you should avoid editing the article. NtheP (talk) 18:31, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not add promotional material to Wikipedia, as you did to Double Cola. While objective prose about beliefs, products or services is acceptable, Wikipedia is not intended to be a vehicle for soapboxing, advertising or promotion. Thank you. --Chris (talk) 18:37, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Advertising and promotion

[edit]

Howdy and welcome to Wikipedia. It is generally considered unacceptable to have an employee or close relation of an article's subject editing the article. This usually constitutes a conflict of interest. Wikipedia is not a good forum for advertising or promotion; one of our core values is neutral point of view, a standard all editors need to uphold. Please stop editing Double Cola or you may be blocked from editing entirely. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. --TeaDrinker (talk) 19:10, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is your last warning. The next time you use Wikipedia for soapboxing, promotion or advertising, as you did at Double Cola, you may be blocked from editing without further notice. TeaDrinker (talk) 19:12, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your concern. I am new to Wikipedia. I would like to write in a neutral fashion and know how to do so. My intention is not to promote Double-Cola, but to have factual information on the product on this web page. The current information is not entirely correct and needs to be changed. I will reference the new information.

You have been blocked indefinitely from editing for spamming or advertising. From your contributions, this seems to be your only purpose. If you would like to be unblocked, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first.

Request reason:

I am new to Wikipedia and understand it is not a place to advertise or promote. I would only like to add factual information with references. I have learned how to cite and would like the chance to edit this page so that it includes 100% factual information. Please unblock my account.

Decline reason:

Before considering unblocking you, I would like you to read our guideline on handling conflicts of interest and our frequently asked questions by organizations. It is not clear that you understand why your edits thus far have been unacceptable, and these pages will help illustrate that.

Additionally, it appears that the "DC" in your name is a reference to Double Cola. Per our username policy, "unambiguous use of a name or URL of a company, group or product as a username is generally not permitted." If you leave your current employer, you would still be expected to use this account and then the "DC" prefix would not make much sense. I would strongly suggest that, if you are unblocked, you request an account name change. --Chris (talk) 20:30, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

Request reason:

Understand the purpose for the block and will not misuse Wikipedia again DCMeganHallar (talk) 20:08, 24 March 2012 (UTC) I have taken time to read the information on blocks, reasons for blocks, how to handle them, and the specific information on Advertising-only account blocks. I understand it appears that my account was only created for this purpose. I do not intend to use Wikipedia for only editing Double Cola. If unblocked, I will not promote or advertise for Double Cola in any way. I was only interested in updating the page's factual information and realized not to include promotions such as contact emails and social media accounts. I will avoid any puffery to any article I may edit in the future. I understand the article must be unbias. I will change my user name if unblocked. I would like the chance to use Wikipedia in the correct way, now that I know how it is supposed to be used. I appreciate your consideration.[reply]

Accept reason:

I will go ahead and unblock you, however I would strongly advise you to make suggestions of what to change on the article talk page, and ask others to implement them, rather than making the edits yourself. This adds a bit of a barrier between editors with a conflict of interest and the article itself. I should also give you a heads up that policy is currently under consideration which may bar you from editing on COI articles entirely, but it is still up in the air. Do let me know if you have any questions or concerns. --TeaDrinker (talk) 21:04, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. I appreciate your suggestions and will act accordingly.

Hello, I have read the following information under Wikipedia’s Username Policy. “User accounts with few or no edits will not normally be renamed, as it is quicker and easier to simply create a new account.” “It is not possible to delete user accounts” “It is recommended that contributors not use multiple accounts without good reason” “It is recommended that multiple accounts be identified as such on their user pages; templates such as {{User alternative account}} may be used for this purpose.”

I would like to create a new account and just not use DCMeganHallar. May I change my name to SchoenenTag? — Preceding unsigned comment added by DCMeganHallar (talkcontribs)

Yes, see the instructions at WP:CHUS. --Chris (talk) 13:34, 2 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
