Welcome

[edit]

Hello, Davekatz, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been reverted for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of deletion, you might like to draft your article before submission, then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. To start creating a draft article, just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit that page as you would any other. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. It is also worth noting that Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which specifically link them to one company or corporation. If your username does have such a name, it would be advisable for you to request a change of username.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! Invitrovanitas (talk) 09:03, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on MA program in Coping with Stress, Crisis, and Trauma, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Hi Davekatz - thanks for your message on my talk page. To answer your question, the article you created on MA program in Coping with Stress, Crisis, and Trauma was nominated for deletion by another editor because they believed it was composed entirely of material designed to promote or advertise the subject. As Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, we need articles which are written from a neutral point-of-view, preferrably by people who are not connected with the subject or organisation being written about. As an administrator, I examined the article to see whether it should be deleted, and agreed with the person who nominated it. The article contained words and phrases such as "world renowned" and included a sentence directing prospective students to the university's website for more information, which is not suitable in a Wikipedia article. It almost appeared as though the material in the article had been copied from the course prospectus, which would not be an appropriate source for a Wikipedia article. This is the reason why I deleted the article.

Additionally, it is uncommon for an individual university course to have it's own article on Wikipedia. While universities, colleges and sometimes notable departments may have articles written about them, it would be very unusual for an article to be written which is solely about a course run at a university. There may be some alternative outlets you could use, which specialise in publishing this kind of information.

I hope this is useful - please let me know if there's anything I can help you with. Regards, --Kateshortforbob talk 11:29, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Tel Aviv University do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Wikipedia is not a collection of links; nor should it be used as a platform for advertising or promotion, and doing so is contrary to the goals of this project. Because Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, please discuss it on the article's talk page before reinserting it. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Muhandes (talk) 12:34, 1 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
