Bucking horse content status

[edit]

Atsme Okay, here's where I say I royally screwed up and took way too long to get content out of the book "A Belly Full of Bedsprings: The History of Bronc Riding". Let me assure that the delay was not intentional. The book had great content on the beginning of using wild mustangs for cow ponies, cowboys starting out with bronc contests amongst themselves before rodeo began, and then of course, tons of great content on bronc riding.

I thought, since I was going to read through the book to write content for the bucking horse article, why not also get content for other prospective articles in Wikipedia, such as "Bronc riding", "Rodeo", "Bucking", and other related articles. Otherwise, I would have to go through the book combing through for content several times rather than just once.

Unfortunately, the first comb through took a long time, and I still ended up with material that was too closely paraphrased to the source. And doing this work is intense, hard to spend a long time at it at once. So, I decided to go through it again, and also to fill in holes that I had left the first time. And I just finished doing that last week. And I am afraid there is still content that is still too closely paraphrased.

So, I just can't justify going through the book again. In fact, I would pull my hair out if I did. So, I have spent the last few days actually starting a new sandbox where I'm trying to write real content to be used. And I have made a pact with myself that I won't let other Wikipedia items distract me anymore. I joined Wikipedia to write articles. But I have only written six articles this year, an average of one per month. I haven't written a bull article in over a year. I need to overhaul what I'm doing on Wikipedia and my todo list. It's not as fun. And, I feel badly about taking so long on this bucking horse article. I didn't even realize how long it really was until I looked it up. Gosh, I know there are no deadlines on Wikipedia, but this is ridiculous! I wouldn't blame you if you have gotten tired of waiting for this. Just like the CfD for the AQHA/NCHA categories, I don't blame you for getting tired of that one...two months with no action.

Anyway, I'm going to tell you where the stuff is and you decide what you want to do. Whether you want to edit, or just comment, or make suggestions, or do nothing, or do something later, all up to you. I know you have time issues and you have to deal with your eye issue. I'm not expecting anything. I'll just keep working and it will be here if you decide to get involved.

I've been adding the sources to the live article's talk page where I originally added sources in the very beginning.

The new sandbox where I'm writing in and you would want to edit or read follows this paragraph. I have so far taken the Etyomology section that montanabw wanted saved and updated it. I then added citations to the bits of it that didn't have any. She asked me to do that. Next I have started the History section, adding how the horses got to America, and continuing on. I also redid a new sandbox to keep the content that I did from the book. Content which I am slowly pulling from into the new "Bucking horse sandbox". Content in this sandbox is not guaranteed to be 100% original and should be checked for a little close paraphrasing before being used. Sections in this sandbox that list bronc busters and broncs are just that, lists. They have not been transcribed. However, they all have "stories" in the book. I left it to be decided by us later if we wanted to include any information on any of these men or horses in the article. If so, I would then pull from the content in the book.

Also, I know I sent you a link to the Google drive before where the scans are located. Shout if you need another link again. Also, if you happen to have a gmail account, that gives you more handling capabilities with the scans online than a non-gmail account.

I am trying to keep this short. I figure if you need more information, you can ask for it. dawnleelynn(talk) 04:01, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, I'll take a look. First, I have to complete a GA review. No problem on the timing - thanks for all you do!! Atsme Talk 📧 09:58, 2 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
