A tag has been placed on Frosty the Dopeman requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a musical recording which does not indicate why its subject is important or significant, and where the artist's article does not exist or is eligible for deletion itself. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for music.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. menaechmi (talk) 19:54, 7 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't want to seem harsh, and I definitely don't want you to feel like I am WP:HOUNDING or anything of the sort (so I am leaving the rest of the article's fate up to other editors/an admin). I will say it here, and then leave it be. Please do not think I don't appreciate you contributing to Wikipedia. I do, it's great, so please carry on. In my interpretation of the above criterion for speedy deletion, Frosty the Dopeman does not have a credible claim of WP:Significance (at least given the state it is in). To me, the statement that it is mentioned in Scary Movie 2, and that Dr. Demento has played it means it has at least been recorded. It doesn't demonstrate what the significance of the song is. If there is something more, please put it in the article.
Failing that, maybe instead of having it's own article, it can be added as a mention on Frosty the Snowman? Or any number of solutions that I would love to help you figure out. Please, lets keep talking about this. menaechmi (talk) 20:39, 7 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion discussion about Frosty the Dopeman[edit]

Hello, Dementofan,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Frosty the Dopeman should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Frosty the Dopeman .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks,

This article should not be speedy deleted as being about a musical recording that does not indicate its own importance and where the artist's article does not exist, because... This song has a 45-year history of influencing popular culture. It appears on at least 3 different published LPS, has forty or more different versions of the song appearing on Youtube (by various artists), was mentioned in a Hollywood film by a major studio, and has been written about in three books including a scholarly psychology treatise about the influence of music on the mind. Kokain in der Musik : Bestandaufnahme und Analyse aus kriminologischer Perspektive, Kemper Wolf-Reinhard, Dissertation Bremen 2000, page 321, Nr. 107. Just Say Noel : A History of Christmas from the Nativity to the Nineties, Comfort, David, Fireside – Simon & Schuster, 1995, page 64. The Curious World of Drugs and Their Friends – A Very Trippy Miscellany, Niermann Ingo and Sack, Adriano, Plume / Penguin Books, 2008, page 117.

Please note that I did not nominate the article for speedy deletion, but at AfD, where we have a discussion about the article to form consensus. To argue in favour of a keeping the article, please provide your rationale at the discussion page. I have noticed that you have already done that, but you seem to think that you need to follow the process for speedy deletion. You may find Wikipedia:Articles for deletion helpful. If you know of independent, reliable sources that have not previously been cited in the article, could you please do so? Thanks, Mduvekot (talk) 21:06, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Using wikipedia as a source - please don't do that[edit]

I've noticed you have used wikipedia as a source here Please read Wikipedia:Wikipedia is not a reliable source. Mduvekot (talk) 21:31, 15 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia article on Frosty the Dopeman has been updated as was suggested. The influence on popular culture of this song since its inception 45 years ago is readily apparent in the independent sources cited: three books from three independent publishers (properly cited), the inclusion of the song on Dr. Demento's "Dementia Royale" compilation album, the inclusion of the song into the script of Scary Movie 2 and the forty different versions on Youtube which the song inspired and continues to inspire, the latter of which demonstrates the song's enduring influence continuing to the present day. There is simply no better testimonial to the value of an enduring work of art than its propensity to continue to inspire. Although I appreciate your comments and which were very helpful on the technical side, I think you are overlooking this ultimately critical measure of the work's value and importance.
