Belinda Webster

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Belinda Webster, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable, that is, why an article about that subject should be included in Wikipedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert notability may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is notable, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. If you are Dr. Belinda Webster, you may wish to consider instead keeping the information on your userpage. Your message

[edit]

Hi Drbw, thanks for your message! Sadly, editors do not always consider that articles they delete are the hard work of other people. In their defense, many editors are very busy in keeping the encyclopaedia in good shape, but I still think it is polite to leave a message in explanation, don't you? Anyway, let me explain the process that led to the deletion in a bit more detail, that way you may be able to realize why it happened and perhaps re-write it in a way it can be kept.

Editors will sometimes leave a template on an article, noting that they think the subject is notable enough for its own article. As an administrator, its one of my jobs to assess this claim based on our policies and act accordingly. The major criteria for an article on anything is notability and verifiability. The specific criteria that must be met for articles about individuals is explained in WP:BIO. However, if the article does not even claim that the individual is particularly notable the article may be speedy deleted under the rule WP:CSD#A7. This is what happened with your article.

So, if you think Webster or Le Rhodes are notable, here is what to do. You should read WP:BIO and rewrite the article, clearly explaining their notability and providing at least one reliable source backing it up. That will not guarantee the article will be kept, but it should mean that it will not be speedy deleted again. Instead - if another editor has concerns - it will go through the deletion process where you and the rest of the community can have its say and argue its case.

One other thing. If you are Belinda Webster, then you should consider reading WP:COI. Briefly, you should be very careful in editing an article about yourself, simply because it is near impossible to be objective. Instead, the theory goes, if you genuinely are notable enough, someone else will create an article about you.

I hope that has been of some help. One last thing: If you wish to proceed with these articles, but don't wish to release them to the scrutiny of the general public just yet, you can always edit in your userspace (for example, on this page: User:Drbw/Drafts). I would be happy to comment on anything before you send it "live". Just drop me another message. Happy editing! Rockpocket 06:30, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. I just reviewed the deleted Tony Le Rhodes article and I have to agree with you that there certainly is a claim of notability in there. However, it isn't verified by a reliable source (see WP:RS). If you could verify the claims then I would be happy to support its re-instatement. Let me know. Hi Rockpocket. Thanks so much for that. I have read the reliable source article and I understand the unreliability of personal websites. I assume this is why my article was rejected because the only source I listed was a personal website. I do have a list of other online sources on the subject of Tony Le Rhodes, which I believe confirm the notability of the subject, but as far as verifying the data of my article they are not helpful:
a) because most of the web pages are not in English (they are in Korean and Japanese), and
b) the web pages refer to events/facts not (yet) included in the article.
Examples:
http://www.samasound.co.kr/samasound/instance/endorser04.htm
http://www.samasound.co.kr/samasound/instance/board1/review_read.htm?idx_no=176&page=1

I was planning to expand the Tony Le Rhodes article but it was deleted so quickly that I didn't even have the chance. Any suggestions? Drbw 17:30, 18 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again. Sorry in the delay in getting back to you, my laptop died so my editing time was restricted. Anyway, many of those links - at least the ones in English - would not satisfy WP:RS. However this one might and if the ones in Korean and Japanese do then they could still be used (though that isn't ideal). I'm not 100% convinced La Rhodes is notable enough for his own article, but I do think there is enough there to make a credible claim for notability. That would mean that the article shouldn't be speedy deleted. Instead of someone wanted to challenge the claim, they would have to go through WP:AfD and the community would ge tthe chance to debate it. If you are still interested, I would suggest you go ahead and create the article on this page until you are happy with it, then move it back to Tony Le Rhodes. I'll happy have a look over it for you, if you like, before it goes live. Rockpocket 05:57, 26 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
