History

By the late 1980’s and early 1990’s

Joanne Cordero Reyes acquired numerous skills at an early age, when working for her family’s boutique in Southern California. There, she learned how to hand embroider, hand sew garments, and began designing, by the age of eleven.

Joanne was a board member to the non-profit organization, KIWIN’S, in California, Nevada, and Hawaii. Also, she was honored with a Target Award and the Archdiocese Award of Los Angeles in 1999 for her leadership and devoted hours in community service. She later enhanced her fashion and design skills during college.

From 2000 to The Introduction

In 2000, Joanne graduated from the University of Washington in Seattle after studying architecture.

In 2004, she graduated from Parsons School of Design, in New York City, pursuing a career in fashion. Before graduating, during her third year, she moved to Paris and had her first freelance design position for the Fall 2003 haute couture collection of Ji Haye Couture. She was one of the Top Ten Designers of her class and was in Fashion Week Daily as one of America’s Next Designers.

Ensuing Parsons School of Design, Joanne designed for Reem Acra as a freelance designer, for the women’s eveningwear collection Spring 2005. Concluding that year, she became a designer for J. Mendel’s evening and luxury ready-to-wear collections. In 2006, Joanne moved to Los Angeles to design for Monique Lhuillier’s Fall 2007 collection.

After working many years with some of the most prestigious fashion design companies, she was motivated to present a new sense of taste and luxury.

In 2007

In 2007, Vicente Villarin was founded. Five collections have been made since then: Distorted Sweetness in Fashion (Spring 2008), Sculptural Essence of Romanticism (Fall 2008), Light Against Sky (Spring 2009), Beauty on Form (Fall 2009), and its new Spring 2010 Collection.

Vicente Villarin was recently named one of the Fresh Faces in Fashion. Since the collection started, Joanne Cordero Reyes has been named one of the Top Ten New Designers by Style.com and one of the Top Five Designers to Watch by New York Magazine.

Influences

The young American fashion designer was influenced by her talented grandfather, Vicente Villarin Cordero. He was a creative musician, with no formal lessons. Vicente created his first composition by age ten and by the age of eighteen, he was already performing with a live band. In 1952, he dedicated and personally composed "The Girl in Dreams I See" to the 1st Miss Universe, Armi Kuusela. He composed other pieces such as "The Calling" and "Admiring a Filipina."

Through the early 1930's Vicente Villarin traveled around the world playing music and lived in Hong Kong and Shanghai. In 1971, he moved to New York City. He was a father of nine children. In 2000, he died at the age of 87.
