Early July 2022

I am not aware of any pending matters on Wikipedia but should you come here with one, please be aware that I am extremely preoccupied with off-wiki events, whose scope creep is forcibly extending my previously-announced wikibreak. I do not expect this to continue more than a week or two and will reply to any messages when I return Elinruby (talk) 14:50, 2 July 2022 (UTC)

Mirror as a source

hi! I only browsed through the May 2022 RS/N debate related to Sexual violence in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. There's a shortcut to WP:DAILYMIRROR for next time you need to remember the status of The Daily Mirror (UK tabloid). I admit being surprised that it's marked non-consensus (probably because I fail to have checked the nuances that apparently distinguish it from WP:DAILYMAIL), but it is a tabloid, which is not exactly a good sign of being a reliable source. Boud (talk) 01:34, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

hmmm, don’t remember citing them (or was this where I said I lose track of British tabloids?) but thank you for taking the time to point this out. I agree that it isn’t a good indicator and am making a note Elinruby (talk) 03:50, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

Could you kindly publish the diff?

Hello Elinruby, could you kindly publish the diff? I'm referring to your recent contribution at AE where you mentioned a comment I made about Denisova. The diff of my comment is this one: [1]. Gitz (talk) (contribs) 23:45, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Working on it, I am on a mobile. Go away Elinruby (talk) 23:47, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

@Gitz6666: I believe I have provided a link, diff or time stamp for the points I wanted to make. I have no intention of arguing with you about the nature of things, but if any of them do not work, I will be happy to try to fix that. Elinruby (talk) 01:14, 20 July 2022 (UTC)

Denisova

A polite request to stop with your claims that Denisova's sacking had no connection to her statements on sexual violence, it is mentioned as a factor in many articles discussing her sacking which you seem to be interpreting in somewhat non-standard way. In any case, I have mentioned the Washington post article on the talkpage, and I am reiterating it here with the full quotation.

Other Ukrainian officials have been accused of doing the opposite — of using stories of rape to stir emotions. Ukraine’s parliament voted last week to oust human rights ombudswoman Lyudmyla Denisova, based in part on concerns that she was disseminating unsubstantiated reports and focusing on the most sensationalist details, including of babies being raped.

Now, could you please stop claiming that her sacking had nothing to do with her comments on sexual violence? Failure to do so would constitute WP:IDHT.

Also, I would politely ask you not to trivialise the subject of rape with flippant comments and a WP:BATTLEGROUND attitude. -Boynamedsue (talk) 07:14, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

Pffft you think I am trivializing rape? Lol. I also am not saying it had *nothing* do with her “sacking”, as you so *respectfully* put it. But “unsubstantiated” does not mean “untrue”, yanno. Perhaps this is a language issue? Rape is very hard to prove in court in the best of times. I submit that nobody has said she lied, and the fact is that people felt she was spending too much time in Western Europe safe and warm raising awareness, as opposed to working out the problems with the humanitarian corridors or working on any number of more provable war crimes. AGF the media you consume are telling you something else, but it’s a bit hallucinatory to be accused of trivializing rape by somebody that thinks it shouldn’t be in the war crimes article at all. If you are sincere maybe you should give this some thought.

Yours was not a polite request, it was a regurgitation of buzzwords and oh by the way this is *my• best attempt at AGF in the face of *your* attempt for whatever reason to minimize pointless tragedy. This does not require a reply, and I suggest you should not. Elinruby (talk) 07:52, 21 July 2022 (UTC)

  • Yes, I think your flippant language and frequent sarcasm and use of juvenile slang is not appropriate for a discussion of such terrible subjects and would possibly offend survivors. It certainly offends me. You are quite right to say that "unverified" and "unsubstantiated" allegations are not necessarily untrue. What I am saying is that if you are sacked, in part, for making unsubstantiated allegations, any of your comments on the said topic can only reasonably be included in a wikipedia article if that fact is prominently displayed next to each and every one of them. Boynamedsue (talk) 10:23, 21 July 2022 (UTC)
You go, Boynamedsue! I am sure that if you work hard you will eventually find somebody who doesn’t know any better than to believe that. Meanwhile, I think I will do something more productive to do than type all that out yet again. I am sorry you are so emotional about this, but you’re pretty wrong, you know, and you definitely aren’t listening to me, so...I think I will go alphabetize islands in the Congo Delta or something so... good luck with that Elinruby (talk) 10:52, 21 July 2022 (UTC )
