Steve Uncles has been politically active in the English Democrats for 12 years and has secured over 100,000 votes.

It is appropriate that he recognised on Wikipedia, as he has been selected to stand in the 2016 Police Commissioner Elections for the second time in May 2016

Hi

Hi, English4Truth, welcome to Wikipedia. Are you the same person as User:English Truth, who created the article Steve uncles that you have commented on? It looks like you might be. Which of the accounts do you prefer to use going forward? Please reply below. Bishonen | talk 17:28, 28 August 2015 (UTC).[reply]

I created English Truth (without an e-mail address) and tried to log in again, and it would not let me - so I created another users account - English4Truth
- I am new to this so do find it all rather over administrative !
Yes, I don't blame you, it can be overwhelming for new users. You might want to visit the Teahouse, a helpful place for new users, if you have any questions. I see you have wikipedia e-mail enabled for this account, so I suppose you might as well stick with it. Good luck! Bishonen | talk 19:08, 28 August 2015 (UTC).[reply]

Edits, minor and otherwise

[edit]

Greetings, O English4Truth! I hope I'm not overwhelming you with Wikipolicy, but you've committed an unintended solecism in two of your recent edits to English Democrats, and I'd like to let you know so that you won't unwittingly antagonize your fellow editors.

The edits are these: [1] and [2]. The problem is that you checked the "This is a minor edit" box. In Wikiparlance, "minor" edits have to be absolutely uncontroversial: correcting obvious misspellings, fixing obvious formatting errors, and the like. Any edit that any editor, anywhere, at any time, might disagree with should not be marked as minor. This is discussed at WP:MINOR—but as a new editor, you probably don't want to add another to the list of policy pages that you have to read.

The problem is that some editors have their watchlists set to exclude minor edits. To such an editor, your marking significant edits as minor might look like an attempt to sneak a substantive change under the radar.

At this stage in your editing career, it's probably best to ignore the existence of the minor-edits box. I've got over 20,000 edits in my own history, and I doubt that I've used the box on as many as a hundred of them. I personally don't think it would hurt Wikipedia at all if they completely eliminated the minor-edit distinction; but that's one editor's opinion... — Ammodramus (talk) 15:58, 30 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
