The longer you spend here, the more you'll realize that this place is more complicated than you could possibly imagine. Still, we need some quality control - given how bad a lot of our articles are right now, can you imagine how bad they'd be if we let anyone do whatever they wanted? A few more points:

• Thank you for reacting as you did to the article's speedy deletion (learning the policies, asking about them when unclear, creating a new, sourced article, etc.). You'd be surprised at how many editors consider it a better idea to either re-create the same article until they're blocked or yell at the deleting admin about how this band is huge in the Melbourne underground scene, which the admin would know if he didn't have his head so far up his ass, and what gives him the right to decide what does and doesn't get deleted.
• To be honest, I still think this article is borderline to survive a WP:AFD if it was ever nominated, but it would certainly have a chance. And it's no longer speedy-able, anyway. If new media coverage, etc., ever comes up about this, it would probably be a good idea to add it to the article to further assert notability.
• Lastly, I'm not sure whether or not you have anything to do with this site (often new users who immediately create an article on a given band, website, company, person etc. are somehow related to the article's subject), but you might want to give WP:COI a read. It doesn't prohibit you from editing any pages, but it does provide guidelines on how you should do so.
