A belated welcome!

[edit]
Sorry for the belated welcome, but the cookies are still warm!

Here's wishing you a belated welcome to Wikipedia, Epiphonewiki. I see that you've already been around a while and wanted to thank you for your contributions. Though you seem to have been successful in finding your way around, you may benefit from following some of the links below, which help editors get the most out of Wikipedia:

Also, when you post on talk pages you should sign your name using four tildes (~~~~); that should automatically produce your username and the date after your post.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page, consult Wikipedia:Questions, or place {{helpme}} on your talk page and ask your question there.

Again, welcome! Sam 🎤 16:31, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. I saw that you edited or created Epiphone, and I noticed that the username you have chosen, "Epiphonewiki", seems to imply that you are editing on behalf of something other than yourself. Please note that you may not edit on behalf of a company, group, institution, product, or website which relates to the entity in question, and Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are promotional or accounts that are shared. If you are willing to use a personal account, please take a moment to create a new account or request a username change that represents only yourself as an individual. You should also read our Conflict of interest guideline and Plain and simple conflict of interest guide, and remember that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose. If you believe that your username does not violate our policy, please leave a note here explaining why. Thank you. Sam 🎤 16:37, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because it appears to be mainly intended for publicity and/or promotional purposes. If you intend to edit constructively in other topic areas, you may be granted the right to continue under a change of username. Please read the following carefully.
Why can't I edit Wikipedia?

Your account's edits and/or username indicate that it is being used on behalf of a company, group, website or organization for purposes of promotion and/or publicity. The edits may have violated one or more of our rules on spamming, which include: adding inappropriate external links, posting advertisements and using Wikipedia for promotion. Wikipedia has many articles on companies, groups, and organizations, but such groups are generally discouraged from using Wikipedia to write about themselves. In addition, usernames like yours are disallowed under our username policy.

Am I allowed to make these edits if I change my username?

Probably not, although if you can demonstrate a pattern of future editing in strict accordance with our neutral point of view policy, you may be granted this right. See Wikipedia's FAQ for Organizations for a helpful list of frequently asked questions by people in your position. Also, review the conflict of interest guidance to see the kinds of limitations you would have to obey if you did want to continue editing about your company, group, organization, or clients. If this does not fit in with your goals, then you will not be allowed to edit Wikipedia again.

What can I do now?

If you have no interest in writing about some other topic than your organization, group, company, or product, you may consider using one of the many websites that allow this instead.

If you do intend to make useful contributions here about some other topic, you must convince a Wikipedia administrator that you mean it. To that end, please do the following:

  • Add the text {{unblock-spamun|Your proposed new username|Your reason here}} on your user talk page.
  • Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with a new username you are willing to use. See Special:Listusers to search for available usernames. Your new username will need to meet our username policy.
  • Replace the text "Your reason here" with your reason to be unblocked. In this reason, you must:
    • Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the edits for which you were blocked.
    • Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked.
If you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal this block by adding the text {{unblock|Your reason here}} below, but you should read the guide to appealing blocks first. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 16:46, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Hi Sam. I didnt realize that using that name would create a problem. I am the sole owner and operator of the epiphonewiki website and thought it would be great to use my knowledge and resources to help complete and correct wikipedia Epiphone related pages. I have no affiliation with the Epiphone or Gibson corporations, as well, I have no intention to use wikipedia as a tool for spamming or to drive traffic to my own website. Also, I do not use my website as a reference to any information that I add to wikipedia. The link to my website in the main article was not put there by me, and upon discovering it, was one of the things that prompted me to begin work here at wikipedia. My username and the link to my website is wholly unimportant to the work I have been doing to the main article and related pages. I chose that particular username because my typical handle was taken and I needed something easy to remember. oops. The username "epiphonewiki" was not my first choice. I would be more than happy to change my username if I am allowed to continue editing pages related to the Epiphone brand. I am regretful for the situation that this has created regarding my account and offer my sincerest apologies, as it was not my intention whatsoever. Please consider unblocking my account and a lesson learned. Thank you. Epiphonewiki (talk) 17:16, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Decline reason:

There is no consensus to unblock you under the name Epiphonewiki, but you can select a new user name. See my message at the bottom of this talk page for what to do next. EdJohnston (talk) 00:25, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

  • Comment Hi Epiphonewiki. I just want to let you know that I am a normal editor here, and it will be an administrator who reviews your unblock request, and I while I think you sound honest and could not really see your edits being frightfully upsetting (maybe a tad "the completest database of Epiphone products'ish") admins have a lot of experience as to what the community guidelines suggest in these cases, and might judge differently. If that turns out to be the case why not just join with another handle? And put your expertise into other articles beside Epiphone as well? Best, Sam 🎤 17:33, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Sam. I appreciate your reply. If they deny my review, I'll probably just go back to editing anonymously. Most of the work I've done on all of the Epiphone related pages was anonymous. I only created an account because I was tired of the Captcha. Epiphonewiki (talk) 19:40, 20 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion nomination of Epiphone Bluegrass Instruments

[edit]

Hello Epiphonewiki,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Epiphone Bluegrass Instruments for deletion, because it doesn't seem to have any encyclopedic content.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Sourov0000 (talk) 17:01, 21 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Epiphonewiki,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Epiphone Archtop Hollowbody & Semi-Hollowbody Guitars should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Epiphone Archtop Hollowbody & Semi-Hollowbody Guitars .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Thanks, Sourov0000 (talk) 17:20, 21 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Epiphone edits

[edit]

Hello, I am involved in the deletion discussions reguarding your Epiphone articles. I wanted to take some time to provide you with some advice. First I would like to point you to our COI and SPA policies. You need to excercise caution in reguards to Epiphone articles. If you have any questions or would like some guidance, feel free to contact me. Sephiroth storm (talk) 19:48, 21 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I understand the reason for the deletions regarding the list of Epiphone products. Someone else started this page in 2007 and I merely added to it, then categorized it into separate pages. I now understand the lack of encyclopediac content and take no issues with the deletion of those pages. They are, for all intents and purposes, superfluous. As for the COI regarding my username, I feel that I have explained my position adequetely in my review request. Epiphone guitars and history are my hobby and I have a pretty well-rounded knowledge of this topic. Unfortunately, I have nothing to offer wikipedia in other areas or subjects that havent already been covered or may be in need of correction. Epiphonewiki (talk) 20:46, 21 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please select a new username

[edit]

Hello Epiphonewiki. The blocking admin is OK with you editing again under a new account, just not this one. Please use Special:Listusers to find an available name that's not in use, and is not promotional. The name should not contain 'Epiphone'. Once you've done so please respond back here and an admin can advise what to do next. Thanks, EdJohnston (talk) 03:43, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
