Information icon Hi FHKJ! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Alex Lynn that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. Kj cheetham (talk) 17:00, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you - I will make sure my notes are much more detailed moving forwards FHKJ (talk) 18:53, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello, I'm Kj cheetham. I noticed that you recently removed content from Alex Lynn without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use your sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. Kj cheetham (talk) 17:02, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The article is about his whole life after all, not just more recent events. -Kj cheetham (talk) 17:04, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the notes - having gone through the page WITH Alex Lynn yesterday there were many errors and content that was not accurate, so I have edited it to ensure it IS accurate and I will then expand upon this accurate information over the next few days, FHKJ (talk) 18:50, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In which case that is clearly a conflict of interest, so please see the information I've provided below. Please also ensure you properly disclose if you are being paid for your contributions. -Kj cheetham (talk) 19:56, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No payment - just trying to ensure the facts are correct. FHKJ (talk) 10:35, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest

[edit]

Information icon Hello, FHKJ. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on the page Alex Lynn, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Kj cheetham (talk) 19:54, 3 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks again, no conflict of interest - but wanting to ensure the Wikipedia is accurate and removing clear and obvious errors surely is exactly what editing on Wikipedia is all about?
As before, any further changes - more accurate pictures, correcting race results errors etc - will be done with much more detailed notes than previously. FHKJ (talk) 10:35, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for confirming no payments, but by definition given you know the subject, it is a conflict of interest, though is not inherently a problem as per WP:COINOTBIAS. Your recent change to Alex Lynn removed all the references, so I'm going to have to restore it again if not sorted quickly. Corrections are fine, but removing sourced information is not, without discussion on the article talk page. Thanks. -Kj cheetham (talk) 10:40, 4 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I'll go through and check any removals and update here - the only aim is to keep the page accurate and remove incorrect material - whether sourced or not. FHKJ (talk) 11:51, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
And the nature of knowing the subject ensures that I am in a good position to update the page - ensuring above all that accuracy is paramount - certainly I hope that having the right and correct information is more important than the quantity of information. FHKJ (talk) 11:53, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Finally @Kj cheetham I read through the Wikipedia:COINOTBIAS very carefully before any edits. As I am sure you can see, there is no promotion/advertising in the page - in fact I have removed many (incorrect) assertions that could be considered promotional, as well as clear inaccuracies and untruths. Again, thanks for the help, but I stand by the fact that this page is now an accurate and correct version. FHKJ (talk) 11:55, 5 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Warning icon Please stop. If you continue to blank out or remove portions of page content, templates, or other materials from Wikipedia without adequate explanation, as you did at Alex Lynn, you may be blocked from editing.

I don't have the capacity at the moment to review it in detail, nor is it my area of expertise, but removing referenced text from an article without proper justification is potentially disruptive editing. Given this is a bio of a living person (WP:BLP) having it completely unreferenced is also not acceptable, as it must be verifiable (as per WP:VERIFY). Picking a phrase you removed, "Despite good qualifying performances in three of the season's first four races, he lost grid position in all of the aforementioned events", that appeared to be suitably referenced to https://web.archive.org/web/20180303105708/http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/motor-racing/formula-e-mexico-city-e-prix-alex-lynn-a8237191.html and removing it gives the impression of not being neutral (WP:NPOV). I am going to restore the old version again, and ask that you please do not simply undo my edit. If you want to make changes, do small changes so they can be explained rather than en mass. If you need assistance, please consult WP:TEAHOUSE. Thank you.
