Week 3 Assignment -VogueRover7 (talk) 01:25, 15 November 2018 (UTC)VogueRover7

Hello Professor, I have certain edits on the article and also made a recommendation for the changing the structure of a sentence as it doesn't convey the meaning effectively. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Sport_in_India#Kite-flying_edit https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Sport_in_India&action=history

VogueRover7 (talk) 01:25, 15 November 2018 (UTC)VogueRover7

I offered a response to you VogueRover7 in the Talk page where you made a comment. Also, when you sign your posts, just include the ~~~~ once, it seems there is more information that appears after your signature so it appears you are adding more information there. --- FULBERT (talk) 15:12, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Week 1-check-in message Bunny233 (talk) 14:46, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi professor, this is Wenlin and just come to say hi Bunny233 (talk) 12:56, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia Bunny233. Hope you find this the first of many steps in contributing to the open knowledge movement! --- FULBERT (talk) 15:26, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Week 3: First copyedits --- Dvcap (talk) 23:17, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

Good night professor! I've just removed the text from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Separation_anxiety_in_dogs that was not following the Wikipedia policy. --- Dvcap (talk) 23:17, 16 November 2018 (UTC)

Good catch on that Dvcap. In your edit summary some of the words had some coding. To make that easier next time, include a [[ ]] around coding pointing people to Wikipedia policies that you are mentioning in your corrections. For example, on my own Sandbox, in the bullets I have listed after "Links I frequently use when reverting intentional or unintentional vandalism:" I just copy and paste the text to the right of the hyphen, not including the text to the left of it. --- FULBERT (talk) 15:22, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
Thanks again! --- Dvcap (talk) 17:19, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Week 3: First copyedits - Rachelma114

Hi professor, here's the link for my first copyedits. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Recommender_system&action=history. I corrected some grammar errors. For example, I changed "user based" to "user-based", removed spaces in "items/users", and etc. --Rachelma114 (talk) 17:23, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Very basic edits, but every edit that improves an article helps knowledge to be more open and accurate Rachelma114. --- FULBERT (talk) 19:46, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Week 3: First copyedits Qhdud12

Hi professor, I've made some minor changes to an article called "Korean beauty standards". I've also left a feedback on its talk page for some suggestions. Here are the links: Minor grammar changes: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Korean_beauty_standards&action=history Suggestion: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Korean_beauty_standards

Thank you! Qhdud12 (talk) 18:55, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Replied to you there Qhdud12, and always remember that Wikipedia articles are crowdsourced and collective. There is no "you," there is only a "we," so always a good practice to check in on the Talk page and Be Bold and edit with evidence! --- FULBERT (talk) 19:55, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Week 3 First Copyedits Bunny233 (talk) 16:26, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Hello professor, please see the link for my first copyedits https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Eating_disorder&action=history. Basically, I did some changes on punctuation and order of words, and caught a spelling error and two grammatical errors. I feel this is challenging for non-native speakers like me because sometimes language is just so tricky.Bunny233 (talk) 16:26, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Please adjust the previous assignment and then re-ping me and I will take a look at this one Bunny233. --- FULBERT (talk) 19:34, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
Hi professor, just letting you know that I've adjusted my previous assignment. Bunny233 (talk) 01:57, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
Thanks; good corrective edits overall Bunny233. When making many small changes on an article, it may be quicker to do all of them at once and then save. Otherwise fine. --- FULBERT (talk) 02:56, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

Week 2 Article Evaluation Bunny233 (talk) 14:46, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi professor, this is wenlin and please see the link for my article review User:Bunny233/sandbox. Thanks.Bunny233 (talk) 14:44, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

I do not know which article you are offering a critique of. Can you add a link to that both here as a reply and in your Sandbox Bunny233? Thanks --- FULBERT (talk) 15:27, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
Sorry, my bad. Here's the article link for my review:[[1]], and I'll also add it in my sandbox. Thanks for your reminder. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bunny233 (talkcontribs) 16:05, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
This was not signed Bunny233. Please reply here and sign it and then I will review. Thanks. —- FULBERT (talk) 16:38, 17 November 2018 (UTC)
Oops, not sure why it was unsigned. Please see the link for the article:[[2]], and I also added it in my sandbox.Bunny233 (talk) 01:51, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
Thanks Bunny233. Done. --- FULBERT (talk) 02:57, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

Week 3: First copyedits - Tongxin Liu

Hi professor, here is the link for my first copyedits https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Marketing_performance_measurement&action=history. Some noun phrases seem to be missing a determiner before them. So I added the determiner to these phrases to be more specific. I also removed unnecessary and incorrect commas and added the specific link for the term cost per lead which will be easy to find the meaning and understand the term. Thank you. Have a good night!Tongxin Liu (talk) 04:38, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

Some of the edits may have been a bit too much, but overall they are helpful Tongxin Liu. --- FULBERT (talk) 13:05, 18 November 2018 (UTC)

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, FULBERT. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

Week 3: First copyedits - Yiming Cui

Hi professor, I have made a minor change to the wiki ariticle "Data pre-processing", adding some brief introductions of typical data preprocessing methods for readers' comprehensiveness about how to do data pre-processing. Here is the link of my revision history: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Data_pre-processing&action=history Thank you!--Yiming Cui (talk) 22:11, 17 November 2018 (UTC)

This addition is fine Yiming Cui but you need to provide a source for it. I would normally undo it as unsourced. Do you have an article or other credible reference you can use to substantiate or provide evidence for it? That is the assignment for this coming week, but I think this is needed now. Please take a look at the training session for this week for how to add a source and add it today to prevent this change from being undone --- FULBERT (talk) 13:02, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
Sure, professor, I am going to do it now. Thank you.--Yiming Cui (talk) 19:56, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
Hi professor, I have finished providing sources for the content I added. Please review it: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Data_pre-processing&action=history Thank you.--Yiming Cui (talk) 20:17, 18 November 2018 (UTC)
Thanks Yiming Cui. This seems in order now. --- FULBERT (talk) 19:47, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

Q: Why / why not you intend to continue editing on Wikipedia.
A: I do have intention to keep editing and contributing to Wikipedia about themes I really enjoy talking and learn. It is also an excellent way to trainee my writing and reading skills. Week 5 Assignment - VogueRover7 (talk) 20:39, 2 December 2018 (UTC)VogueRover7

Hello Professor, these articles have added the names of the players. For this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_India_Tennis_Association I have added a new section named as Rio Olympics and for this article https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nike,_Inc. have added the name of tennis players sponsored by Nike.

Great on one, but the other you used Nike as its own soource; can you find an external, reliable 3rd party source to substantiate that claim? We should not use a company's own website to establish their own claims. Make the edit and ping me here again VogueRover7. --- FULBERT (talk) 15:46, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

** BONUS ** (one EXTRA point!)-VogueRover7 (talk) 21:22, 2 December 2018 (UTC)VogueRover7

What your experience was like (overall) with this Wikipedia course assignment. We search for information when we need information and the first search option was Wikipedia. It feels good to contribute to Wikipedia and be part of the community that edifies everyone with the information we need.

What you learned. The first thing that I have learned that it was very important to have a verifiable and accurate information presented in the article as many people rely on the information that may not be factually correct in another internet searches. Second it I was important to have an effective communication with the author and express the correction or edit you are planning to introduce. Third, it is important to maintain the authenticity of the picture without violating any copyrights. Why / why not you intend to continue editing on Wikipedia. It great to have a medium or a community in which I can share and discuss the information we all rely on. It will also provide a mean to correct any wrong information that may be misleading and cause any kind of inconvenience.VogueRover7 (talk) 21:22, 2 December 2018 (UTC)VogueRover7

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this VogueRover7. Hope you keep this up! --- FULBERT (talk) 15:49, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

Week 6 assignment VogueRover7 (talk) 21:08, 2 December 2018 (UTC)VogueRover7

Hello Professor, I have added the picture for the article.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_India_Tennis_Association

Good image insert that still respects the open copyright VogueRover7. --- FULBERT (talk) 15:48, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

--- FULBERT, I have added a new source. But I had added additional sources of the players as well confirming their sponsorship. I used the Nike source as it was from the Investor's report VogueRover7 (talk) 18:18, 4 December 2018 (UTC)VogueRover7

Thanks VogueRover7. All set. --- FULBERT (talk) 23:20, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi professor, here is the link Mobike and Ofo_(company) for week 6 . Please check the new content.--Michael LSY (talk) 21:37, 2 December 2018 (UTC)

** BONUS ** (one EXTRA point!)_Michael_LSY

Hi professor, here are my answers for bonus. What your experience was like (overall) with this Wikipedia course assignment? I like the Wikipedia course assignment, the articles are written in neutral point of view. I can learn lots of knowledge by reading Wikipedia. What you learned? I learn how to add new content and citation in articles. In this process, I know the sentences in articles should be proved. That's great. Why / why not you intend to continue editing on Wikipedia? I intend to continue editing on Wikipedia. It's a good place to learn knowledge cause you can believe the content, and if you have question with the content, you can search the citation to make a sure. I would like to edit because I want to follow the news and update the news to Wikipedia. For example, a promising sharing economy business model in this year may lose customer in the next year. So by continue editing, the Wikipedia content will be updated. Best regards--Michael LSY (talk) 21:57, 2 December 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the overall feedback; hoping you continue with editing Wikipedia Michael LSY. --- FULBERT (talk) 23:28, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

Week 5 Continue editing Kmas 77 (talk) 02:57, 3 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi Professor, please see these two articles in which I have added some content https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smoking_in_Norway and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pisaurina. Thank you Kmas 77 (talk) 02:57, 3 December 2018 (UTC)

Week 6 Creative commons Kmas 77 (talk) 03:41, 3 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi, professor please see these two articles where I have added images. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_City_Air_Terminal#Information_and_ticketing and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jockey#Women_jockeys. Thank you Kmas 77 (talk) 03:41, 3 December 2018 (UTC)

Two more very interesting articles Kmas 77. Nice additions. --- FULBERT (talk) 01:06, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

*Extra Point* Kmas 77 (talk) 03:58, 3 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi Professor, my experience working with Wikipedia has been very positive. I started this assignment knowing very little about how Wikipedia worked and I mostly thought that it was people adding content to articles but I didn't know that the quality assurance process was so meticulous and well supervised. Getting to participate in adding content and editing articles has been very rewarding as a contributor and user, I now have a deeper understanding, respect, and appreciation for this website and the importance of the work all its users add to it. I have learned the importance of citing articles properly and using appropriate content such as media photos or videos in order to protect the content and properly credit the owners of the material. I also have learned that most of the information within Wikipedia is fact-based, I use to think it was like a blog where people wrote their opinions on certain articles, I intend to continue adding content to Wikipedia for articles that are low rated in order to practice what I have learned during the 6 weeks and gain more experience, then I can move on to more important articles where I can provide and add vital information to them (without getting chew up by the more experienced Wikipedia users). Kmas 77 (talk) 03:58, 3 December 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for sharing about what you learned here, Kmas 77. I hope you keep this up! --- FULBERT (talk) 01:07, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

week 5 (yt1416)

Hi professor, these are the two topics I edited. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Humour&action=history https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Shenzhen&action=history Please check--Yt1416 (talk) 04:12, 3 December 2018 (UTC)

Nice edits Yt1416. --- FULBERT (talk) 01:12, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

Extra point (yt1416)

What your experience was like (overall) with this Wikipedia course assignment? It was great. I never thought that I would help editing topics/articles on Wikipedia one day! What you learned? I was surprised when I know that actually everyone could edit the topics on Wikipedia. And now I know how to edit and help improve the content of an article. It's important to be neutral and the content we put on wikipedia should be able to traced back to a reliable sources. Why / why not you intend to continue editing on Wikipedia? I would like to continue editing on Wikipedia for the topics/articles I'm interested in. For example, Shenzhen is my hometown and it has been ranked second on the list of ‘top 10 cities to visit in 2019 by Lonely Planet. I added this information to the Introduction of Shenzhen. I'll keep editing for other topics on Wikipedia, sharing the latest information or knowledge with others. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Yt1416 (talkcontribs) 04:40, 3 December 2018 (UTC)

** BONUS ** (one EXTRA point!) - Yiming Cui

What your experience was like (overall) with this Wikipedia course assignment. My experience with this Wikipedia course assignment is perfect. Previously, I only looked for information from Wikipedia. After I did the whole assignments, I have become a person who contributed to Wikipedia. What you learned. Week 6 - Gl1147

I followed proper procedures for uploading files to wiki commons for files that didn't specify copyright holders and license. Thanks! Gl1147 (talk) 01:47, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

I looked at the file and agree it probably should not have been uploaded to WikiCommons given copyright issues Gl1147. OK for this now as you learned this in the process. --- FULBERT (talk) 02:21, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

Bonus - Gl1147

What your experience was like (overall) with this Wikipedia course assignment.
Overall it is a great learning experience to be part of the wikipedia community. Although there is a learning curve, assignments are reasonably designed for student to learn from the basic to intermediate editing.

What you learned.
I learned how to edited source, cite references properly, review changes, and create watchlist for articles that I am interested in.

Why / why not you intend to continue editing on Wikipedia.
I use wikipedia on a daily basis and it is part of user's responsibility to maintain the biggest free online encyclopedia and make sure it is up to date and accurate. It also allows me to interact with world of scholars and learn from them. Gl1147 (talk) 02:00, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

** BONUS ** (one EXTRA point!)_Tongxin Liu

1. What your experience was like (overall) with this Wikipedia course assignment. A really unforgettable experience. Thank you for providing the opportunity to have access to edit the wikipedia. It’s hard to imagine that I can edit the wikipedia by myself before this class. Because I thought only experts can do this work. I realized everyone can edit the wikipedia after enough investigation about the specific field. 2. What you learned. I learned the importance of doing research. After the abundant research, the accurate conclusion can be made. If there is not enough research, the conclusion will be uncompleted and biased. 3. Why / why not you intend to continue editing on Wikipedia. I will intend to continue editing on Wikipedia after this class. Because I find there are many articles which don’t include the related images. Images provide a more direct way to understand and I often enjoy taking photos in daily life. I can combine my hobby with editing wikipedia which is really a meaningful thing. So I will continue to edit on Wikipedia and add more images to provide a more direct way for people to understand the related articles. Thank you so muchTongxin Liu (talk) 01:53, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

Great to hear about your experiences with this Tongxin Liu. I hope you keep up the editing! --- FULBERT (talk) 02:28, 5 December 2018 (UTC)
