Hong Kong[edit]

  • Fukienshin, I note that you have replaced "Hong Kong" with "China (Hong Kong)" in several infoboxes. However, the Wikipedia article is Hong Kong, so this simpler form should be preferred, and we should try to keep infoboxes concise, see MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE. I will be reverting your changes. If you think that the article name should be changed, then you can raise this at Talk:Hong Kong. Edwardx (talk) 09:58, 12 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hong Kong flag in articles[edit]

Hi Fukeshin, I have noticed that you replaced the Hong Kong flag with the Chinese flag in certain articles and lists. As Hong Kong is a special administrative region, by convention we use the Hong Kong flag in most cases except under exceptional circumstances. Your edits have therefore been reverted. If you think there is an issue with a particular page, please use the article's talk page before making changes to such elements. Thanks. Masterdiamond98 (talk) 05:40, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I understand what you are trying to say but

1. I feel that labelling Hong Kong as a country (as seen in a number of articles) is spreading disinformation online. Spreading disinformation should not be the convention. 2. Many cities in America have their own flags too, why don't you use their flags instead of the American flag? Why does Hong Kong gets to use its own flag instead of the national flag (🇨🇳) Fukienshin (talk) 16:15, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

As I find labelling Hong Kong as a country completely unacceptable especially when taking into account the fact there is zero political controversy regarding the status of Hong Kong as a city in China, I would be reverting your changes too Fukienshin (talk) 16:24, 22 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fukeshin,

Thank you for taking the time to explain your views. I do understand what you mean regarding your edits to the various district pages of Hong Kong. Although it goes against previous convention, I do think it is justified. Therefore I am happy to leave it at that.

However, regarding the edits to the company pages, we normally omit "China" from the address as it is more of an issue of territory rather than which sovereign state the company belongs to. Infoboxes are meant to be concise and Hong Kong is understood to be a part of China. I find the addition of "China" unnecessary, but I will not revert the changes, as there is no point to edit war. After all, it is only a small detail.

Thanks again for your contributions and explaining your views. Masterdiamond98 (talk) 12:27, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Status of Hong Kong[edit]

Hi there! I have noticed that there has been an effort to explicitly distinguish Hong Kong from China, this includes spreading disinformation online on a number of occasions by labelling Hong Kong as a "country" when it is in fact not. Personally, I feel that this means Wikipedia is taking a political stance and is supporting the Hong Kong separatist/independence movement in China. As a encyclopedia, Wikipedia should only serve to provide its users with unbiased information. Thus, I am hoping that this movement of attempting to separate Hong Kong from China can be put to a halt.

For those of you who feel that China by convention should only refer to Mainland China, I am urging you to read up more on the status on Hong Kong. Hong Kong having its own system only implies that it is not part of Mainland China. It doesn't mean that it has gained independence from China. Instead, Mainland China should be used to refer to well...Mainland China and not the whole of China. China by default refers to the People's Republic of China 🇨🇳 which includes Mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau. Of course, here the inclusion of Taiwan would be controversial and thus I would not want to add it in here.

As such, I sincerely hope that everyone will correct such disinformation that is currently being circulated on Wikipedia when you happen to come across it. Thank you. Fukienshin (talk) 02:12, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hong Kong & Macau full name infoboxes[edit]

I noticed you removed "Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China" and "Macau Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China" from the infoboxes. Please refrain from removing this as this is the official constitutional name of the SARs as Hong Kong and Macau are special administrative regions of China. Infoboxes always have the full constitutional names as indicated in the constitution example: Republic of India, Vatican City State, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, etc Yeungkahchun (talk) 05:10, 23 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Moving pages[edit]

Hello, Fukienshin,

Please be careful moving articles to different titles, especially articles that have been at one title for many years. Do not move pages on a whim. It's best if you start a move discussion on the article talk page first. Many articles have redirects pointing towards them and so moving articles to different titles can be very disruptive. You can always go to WP:RM to discuss a page move first. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 22:19, 29 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
